The National Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague will celebrate its 65th anniversay in 2014. In lien of have one celebration, we plan to have several events through the year. The first will be on Sunday, Feb. 2.

His Excellency, Most Rev. Bishop Edward J. Slattery, Bishop of Tulsa, will be coming to the Shrine to celebrate one of the Shrine’s major feast days, “The Presentation of The Lord in the Temple.” He will preside at a solemn high pontifical Mass in the extraordinary form, sometimes known as the traditional Latin rite. The blessing of the candles is part of the liturgy, and you are invited to bring any candles with you that you might want blessed.

There will be a hot lunch catered to all who attend.

Mass will begin at 10:00am on this particular day.

Thanks for the headsup. Now this indeed would be extraordinary. 🙂

When you say that the bishop is “presiding,” what does this mean, since that is not a term used in the EF? Is he pontificating from the throne? That would mean that someone else is the celebrant. Or is he celebrating the Mass?

^^^I am about 99.9999999999999% sure that presiding in this case means celebrating.

Anyway, this is great. Abp. Wenski did this a few years ago in one of his churches with the help of the FSSP.

For a moment I thought this meant he was celebrating in Prague, in Czechia. I was going to say I really doubt Bp. Slattery was Archbishop of Prague. 😛

Bp. Slattery is one of the best in the world. May God Bless him.

I found this Pontifical Mass video presented on a local Polish Church’s website.

milosierdzie.us/?id=32 (It’s the second video under Boże Ciało* A.D. 2011)

Much of the first 30 minutes shows the vesting process involved.

I couldn’t find the Pontifical Mass video on the link provided. All of the videos are just short clips, from what I see.

They keep moving them around I see. You have to be lucky I guess. 🙂

Try this one. It’s the same video of Bishop Slattery.

Thanks for posting the link. I watched the first 30 minutes, and will watch the rest later today. I’ve never seen such a HUGE sanctuary in an American church. Wow! The EWTN narrators do a good job of explaining what is going on, and it’s wonderful that they’ve taken the time to learn about everything involved in this Mass.
