According to Whispers in the Loggia, the Holy Father also called them to work with the pastors of the particular churches (read: Bishops):
Calling the Neocatechumenate “a gift of God for his church,” Benedict quoted its statutes to remind its members that their charism is “placed **at the service of the bishop as one way of diocesan action toward Christian initiation and permanent education in the faith.” **The Pope then recalled the group’s first encounter with one of his predecessors, citing a 1974 address from Paul VI that described the group’s charism as “renewing in today’s Christian communities the effects of maturity and deepening,” which the early church focused on prior to baptism.

Referring to the Vatican’s 2008 approval of its statutes and the CDF’s recent sign-off for a Catechetical Directory for the million-member movement, B16 added that "with these seals of ecclesial approval the Lord today confirms this precious tool which is the Way and again entrusts it to you so that, in filial obedience to the Holy See and the pastors of the church, you may contribute with renewed energy and ardor to the radical and joyful rediscovery of the gift of Baptism, and offer your own original contribution to the cause of new evangelisation.

Movements can be of great benefit to the Church, but, they need to work in tandem with the Church. In other words, everyone needs to be on the same page.

Yes of course! This goes for all …

He reminds us all frequently to live our Baptism…our Marriage…our faithfulness to the Church…Priests to be faithful …Bishops etc…*thankfully *he does this!

And he does so in such wonderful ways!

May Pope Benedict XVI live very long!!

The Vatican answered the Bishops there…

NCatW is not to take a leave of absence for any period of time.

I imagine they will work hard to overcome whatever difficulties there may be…

and the Popes words to them (the whole address) will be
of great encouragement for all involved.

And as he constantly encourages the rest of us too to live our baptism …to follow Christ faithfully in his Church and each of our other vocations.

May we joyfully live it more and more!

I agree. I have no problem with any movement approved by the Church which is fully obedient to the Church and does not stray from their approved statutes.

• Unites us more firmly to Christ;
• Increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us;
• Renders our bond with the Church more perfect
• Gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross

In an address last month, B16 contrasted the administrative bureaucratic priveleged caste church, who has contempt for the devotional church, on whose converted hearts and sacrifical tithings they make their living, while they attempt to silence and squelch their influence–and he called the administrative bureaucratic privileged caste church to conversion! 😃 👍

Anyhoo…I am interested in hearing more of the message of the NeoCatechumenal Way–are there any audio programs in English available online? Would love to hear more preaching and teaching on those bulleted points. Thanks.

This is the stand of the Japan bishops. The bottom line is that the Neo Catecumenal Way is disobedient for them, and also the the Neo Catecumenal Way obtained some support in Vatican.

The charges are that the Neo Catecumenal Way
  • does not believes that the Mass is sacrifice, it is banquet only
  • does not believes that the sin breaks our relationship with God, so we do not need the sacrament of reconciliation.
Questions (if there is one familiar with them)
  • for the Saturday night small group celebrations do they have validly ordained priests for each group?
  • how many times and in which circumstances should an adherent of the Neo Catecumenal Way go to confess his/her sins in order to receive the Eucharist?
 
To answer the questions posed by Laszlo. If there is a celebration of the Mass it is ALWAYS officiated by a priest. If there are numerous then each has a priest (in some cases it may the same priest doing more than one mass, but multiple celebrations usually hinges on the availability of multiple priests.)

Regarding confession and communion there is nothing specified, what is said is to follow the guidelines of the church including frequent confession, to abstain from reception of communion if conscious of grave sin. In short there is no difference in what the church teaches about this and what is said in the communities.

For Laszlo,
In my parish and the surrounding parishes all of our Masses are given by an ordained priest. As said in the post above, sometimes our priests are doing multiple masses back to back. If we do not have an ordained Priest, we do not have Eucharist and our communities are asked to join Sunday Mass.

In regards to reconciliation (in my Parish at least) we are encouraged to go quite often. Again, this does depend on each communities Head Responsibles (in my opinion) and how much they stress receiving the Sacraments. I’m a head responsible in my community and I do try and stress the sacriments and being in line with the Church as often as possible. Sometimes my brothers and sisters are a little rebelious about these things, but then again, they are all teens (in my community) so sometimes they’re in a rebelious mood. But better to be here at our Church with Christ than out on the streets doing something stupid.

I guess what I’m saying is… We try to go to receive the sacraments as often as possible and make sure we are in line with the Church.
