Does the Pope ever celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation?

What have been the history on Popes celebrating this sacrament?

Of course, he does!

Popes must confess too, for they are sinners like the rest of us.

I don’t have any comprehensive answer to your question, but I thought you might enjoy this picture of Pope Benedict hearing confessions at World Youth Day in Spain:

All Popes have a confessor-priest they confess to regularly.

This is the first time I’ve heard of a Pope hearing confessions. You might think they have full schedules!

By they way, I hate that confessional. Give me an old-fashioned wooden triple-closet!

Seriously, where did that photo come from? I’d like to share it with some folks!

I recall some of the recent popes have made a point of hearing confessions on Good Friday.

I think the OP was talking about the Pope hearing Confessions.

Wow, I can’t even imagining confessing to the Holy Father. I think I would be way too embarrassed and nervous. I know that’s anonymous, but that’s just me…

Not me - in fact if it were His Holiness I doubt I could pass up the opportunity for a face to face meeting - mind you I’d probably talk about a lot of other things as well as my sins, and ask him to bless a rosary or two … but he probably gets that a lot 😊

Bishop Healy, an Afro-American, was bishop of Portland, Maine at the end of the 19th century. A neighbor told my grandmother of confessing that she had said the bishop was “black as the devil” without realizing that the bishop was hearing her confession.

He replied, “Please, madam; say black as the ace of spades next time.”

You know, this thread got me thinking about the Popes celebrating other Sacraments, for example, Matrimony. Is there record of a Pope doing this? For example, if he had a nephew or niece he was very close to, they got permission from their parish priest, could the Pope marry them? I’m sure he could, but has that happened?
