The “Pope Chart” might not be entirely accurate! 😛

If Pope John Paul II is the 265th occupant of Peter’s Chair, then the Chart is incorrect to say that it lists only 263 successors. There should be 264!

Unless, the time of printing was pre-1978? Or, the publishers chose to exclude Pope John Paul II because he is still alive?

My 2 cents.

The answer is on the company’s web-site:

***Why does the Catholic Encyclopedia count 265 popes while the Vatican acknowledges 264? *** *The confusion arises around Stephen II (752) who died 3 days after his election, but prior to his consecration. The Vatican list does not contain him, whereas the Catholic Encyclopedia’s list does. *

*The Vatican refers to Pope John Paul II as the 264th pope. The official list is based on the definitive study of Popes, completed in 1947 by Msgr. Angelo Mercato, Director of the Vatican Archives. The Vatican accepted and published his findings as the official list. This list and the Popes since then add up to 264. *

The Pope Chart includes these 264 Popes.

I just received this in the mail. It is really fantastic. My wife thinks I am a “Geek”.
We are brothers in Geekdom. 👍 I have one as well. Actually, I think my wife bought it. But I love it. It is hanging in our makeshift homeschool classroom.

Sadly, I also cannot access the chart. But it sounds awesome!!!

Where can I get a new Pope Chart with Pope Francis? I read online that they were no longer making pope charts. I hope this is not true.

I meant a chart with the popes pictures a brief biography of them.
