We had another thread on the movie a couple weeks ago because a lot of churches have been distributing promo cards for the film.

I look forward to seeing the film.

As for 60 Minutes, I used to watch it every week but that was back when Mike Wallace, Morley Safer, Ed Bradley, and Andy Rooney were all alive. Haven’t watched in decades.

Edited to add, just watched this segment. Good grief, the presenter’s voice is almost as annoying as Gilbert Gottfried…

I’m the only one interested?
I saw the trailer when I went to see “Paul: Apostle of Christ”. I have the premiere marked on my calendar. 😉 I’ll probably go see it next Tuesday, when all our movies around here are half price.

Looks like it’s doing to be something! I, for one, am pretty anxious to see it. I love Pope Francis. I love how he you shakes us up and makes us feel just uncomfortable enough to spur us to action.
Pope Francis is a challenging Pope for these times. Many of us (myself included) are in a stupor of consumerism, gluttony, greed, etc…as evidenced by consumption of drugs, pornography, social entertainment, etc…

He calls us out of our stupor to look outward. He is the man called by God for these times. Challenging to all.

So those who have seen the movie, how was it? Did you enjoy it. Was it worth the money to watch it in a movie theater?

I saw it last week, and I liked it a lot. It held my interest, beautifully filmed. I’m glad I saw it in the theater.

I loved the whole original team. I didn’t mind when they added Diane Sawyer, but I didn’t like any of the other new people they tried to add. Steve Kroft was boring, Meredith Viera was annoying, Molly Ivins was opinionated, I don’t remember who all else they had on. I see by the Wiki article that Christiane Amanpour was a presenter for a while, and I did like her very much on the news but I don’t remember her on 60 Minutes at all.

I really should pray for all the deceased 60 Minutes hosts Mike, Morley, Ed and Harry Reasoner (<---- greatest name for a newsman ever) and Andy Rooney. They brought me many Sunday evenings of enjoyment.

I remember when Kurt Cobain killed himself and Andy Rooney dissed it and I wrote him an angry snail mail letter. I was NOT a Nirvana fan but I didn’t think somebody should rag on someone’s father who committed suicide. The next week he apologized and showed the big stack of angry snail mail letters he’d gotten. I was thinking, “Mine is somewhere in that stack.”

Sunday evening Mass, then Sunday Dinner, then 60 Minutes, and then Sunday Night Football in the fall.

Good times.

I remember once it was on against the Super Bowl on another channel. I was not into watching the Super Bowl at that point so I went to my friend’s bowl party with my own little portable TV so I could sit in the next room and watch 60 minutes while my husband to be and our friends (all guys) watched the Bowl on friend’s TV.
Nowadays I could just watch Puppy Bowl or Kitten Bowl.

There was one time when Rooney let loose the most bigoted tirade against the Catholic Church. I can’t remember the exact topic but it soured me on him ever afterward. Really was shocking and inappropriate in his otherwise enjoyable and often funny segments.

Maybe his anti-Catholic rant was this one

Pretty funny given that Andy is slagging off Pope JPII for being old while, if this happened in 1998, Andy had to be about 80 years old himself.

Pope JPII got the last laugh when he was canonized.

Given that Andy used to get into grumpy old man mode and dissed on Native Americans and gay people as well, I am not surprised if he complained about the Church, probably more than one. That was kind of his job, to whine about stuff like a grumpy old “get off my lawn” guy.
