Some might be thinking - how is Pope Francis an ignored prophet? Everyone pays attention to him! Yes, this is true that everyone seems to love Pope Francis and his message of a poor church, etc. Here’s the thing though - as much as Pope Francis is praised, very few people pay attention to what his actual message is - instead hearing what they want to hear, twisting his words, and criticizing positions that he didn’t actually say! Instead of paying attention to what the media says that Pope Francis said, we should read it for ourselves.

The sad answer is that ALL prophets are ignored during their lifetimes. Look to the Bible for proof of that. Pope Francis has inspired many, but sadly the world will not truly appreciate him until after he is gone.

Yep, this is it. Many people left Jesus when He got to the hard stuff and there still are many who conform Jesus to their own image rather than the other way around. John 15:20 (New American Bible): “Remember the word I spoke to you, ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.”

I think the “Personal Jesus” mentality is much more common than outright persecution nowadays, so the Pope’s treatment should be no different. I do agree that it is sad and must be extremely frustrating for people to distort everything you say and not to take you totally seriously.

The problem is that I don’t think Pope Francis understands the American culture, and the Americans don’t understand him.

North America, despite its problems, is not like Latin America.

Based on comments he made on the flight and keying off comments Marco Rubio made recently, when the Pope speaks out about capitalism, he is not attacking the free markets, which are based on natural law and human incentive, but the rank corruption characteristic in Latin America where there is no middle class despite some countries having descent tourism hotspots and in some cases energy resources.

On the abortion and marriage issue, his comments have been nearly totally ignored by the mainstream media.
