The evangelicals made some inroads in their dialogue. The Pope seems open to unity. As a side note, bishop Tony Palmer, whom the Pope referred to as his brother bishop, died in a motorcycle crash last week. RIP

Well, it’s pretty tough to evangelize when there’s no communication, right? 😉

Had their been serious talks about evangelicals coming home?
Brian Stiller, Global Ambassador of the World Evangelical Alliance (cool title btw), was one of the invitees to meet with the Pope, attributed the following quote of Pope Francis on the WEA blog:

“I am not interested in converting Evangelicals to Catholicism. I want people to find Jesus in their own communities. There are so many doctrines we will never agree upon. Let us not spend time on these. Rather, let’s be about showing the love of Jesus.”

So I would surmise that the evangelicals are more on the way to converting the Pope than vice versa.

Brian Stiller … attributed the following quote …
Don’t believe every “quote” of the holy father. Remember the Scalfari interview? Remember every news article about the pope that the NY Times ever published? Remember a million other unsubstantiated “quotes” from Pope Benedict, St. John Paul II, et al? People hear what they want to hear and publish what they think will draw the most readers.

It is perhaps best that the Pope not give any more interviews especially to atheist reporters. That one particular atheist reported did not take notes nor have a recorder for his talk with the Pope-- very strange way to conduct an interview!

I’m glad the Holy Father is meeting with Evangelicals. You never know who might be converted from such talks.
