Oh I agree but the Pope is explicitly clear about the teaching. The “Church Of Nice” might think they have some influence but they don’t and never will
I believe the sub title of the piece is The Times They are a Changin’. That may be true however, Jesus does not change…Heb 13:8. Apparently the article while praising Pope Francis does so by portraying Pope Benedict negatively. We even see some Catholics doing this though maybe not intentionally.
“Unfortunately, the article disqualifies itself, falling into the usual mistake of a superficial journalism, which in order to highlight the positive aspects of Pope Francis, thinks it should describe in a negative way the pontificate of Pope Benedict, and does so with a surprising crudeness,” Fr. Lombardi said in a statement.

The author’s physical description of Pope Emeritus Benedict was unabashedly cruel.

For anyone thinking of buying a copy - STOP.

There infinitely better ways to get good, orthodox information about the Holy Father for free without having to waste six dollars on that dirt rag.

Who wants to support a magazine still writing articles about Janet Jackson’s nipples? Do we really need to give money to a magazine which supports songs with lyrics like “just wanna get nasty” and “awake all night to get lucky”? Every third page is an ad for contraception or beer or an article supporting legalization of pot.

Do we really want this stuff laying around on our coffee tables? I’d rather give the six dollars to the guy who begs in front of the convenience store.

While this is true, I think the Holy Father is shifting focus from what we are against, to what we are for: kindness, love, charity, humility, gentleness, mercy, a place for broken sinners to heal, and above all as his apostolic exhortation says, the joy of the Gospel.
In my mind, there was never much of a focus on what we were against in the first place.

Furthermore, if what Francis is doing is a shift (and I think it is), the shift is done precisely as a movement away from the practices of previous papacies (which is happening).

Now, whether that is a good thing or bad thing, one can debate, but I don’t think it can be debated that the reason the media is loving Francis so much isn’t due to a new found interest in Catholicism, but the idea that he merely confirms what they believe to be already correct.

^^THIS X 10000000^^

Spot on mate. They want to twist the Pope’s words to suit their own insidious agenda and that’s got nothing to do with seeing the wondrous beauty and truth and THE universal good in Catholicism. I don’t give a damn if Chris Rock thinks the Pope is talking a good game. I only want to hear the Holy Father continually say that we’re all sinners and we have no right to judge anyone but “the teaching is clear”. I’d give the 6 bucks to a Pro Life charity and write a letter to Rolling Stone thanking them for inspiring me to do it 👍

I agree with TimothyH very much. Do people not realize they are settling for subpar portrayals of the Church riddled with misconceptions because we’re crawling at an image that, simply because its the best its been for a while, it’s supposedly a sufficient depiction.

Instead of being infatuated with the fact that this pope is getting the lime light, let us recall the same people are denouncing Benedict - inexcusable. Better to pray then rot one’s mind on the garbage that the media is rolling out. And despite the fact Francis might be emphasizing the good, it cannot be completely “nice” (as pop culture is covering it). Christ had His “scary” moments, and I can say with certainty from the Word of God and from the teachings of the Fathers that the Judgment will not be all rainbows and butterflies.

The Catholic Church:

We sing about beauty and we sing about truth, for a lot less than $10,000 a show!

That certainly wasn’t the case in Quebec up until Vatican II.
Which, for the most part, is outside the memory of most living today.

The media’s fascination with Francis in opposition to Benedict is predicated upon the assumption that the Catholic Church engaged in these harsh condemnations all the time over contraception, same-sex marriage, and abortion, up until March 13th 2013.

That’s plainly false, as I would hazard a guess that over 90% Catholics don’t hear a homily on those topics even once a year.
