Pope Innocent II

I have a protestant friend who keeps bringing up priests and bishops who were all murderers, had orgy’s, etc. This always comes up when Apostolic succession is discussed Pope Innocent II is always brought up as someone who was one of the worst culprits of henious acts. Does anyone know where I can get information on him? or if any of these wild accusations are accurate?

Could you friend be thinking of Innocent VIII (1484-92), who does have a rather unwonderful reputation ?

Innocent II was Pope from 1130 to 1143, and is not associated with such shenanigans ##

Ask him when the Pope he has in mind was Pope.

Here is a link to Schaff’s elderly but still useful “Church History”. As Schaff was a Protestant - a Calvinist, in fact - it is unlikely to be too “RC”.

Not all Protestants are ignorant or one-sided in their approach to Church History - Schaff was not.

Despite its age, it’s a useful coirrective to an excessively rosy view of Church History.
