Perhaps I am mistaken but I seem to have a memory of Pope John Paul II state that it would be a sin to deny the Holocaust?

Depends on the circumstances, if you live in a place where they don’t say much on the issue and deny it, then naturally you maybe inclined to believe it never existed or it was blown out of proportion. He may have been targetting a specific audience when saying that, perhaps Germans growing up during that time?
