Pope Links Happiness to an Encounter With Christ

VATICAN CITY, APRIL 10, 2006 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI told some 6,500 university students that happiness depends on an encounter with Christ and he invited them to communicate this experience to their contemporaries.

“Never forget, dear young people, that your – our – happiness depends, in the end, on the encounter and friendship with Jesus,” the Pope told the students gathered for an audience today in Paul VI Hall.

“He who has discovered Christ cannot but lead others to him, as it is not possible to keep a great joy to oneself; it must be communicated,” he added.

Don’t hesitate to share your joy here!

This is a very encouraging article. I really like to see the benefits (positive side) of Christianity discussed. Of course there are dark sides but something tangible that shows benefit while still on this earth (e.g. peace, joy), provides motivation and gives bait for evangelization.

You asked us to share stories of joy. My search for Christ has brought me emotional stability, peace, and joy. The Divine Therapist has certainly worked in me as I’ve gone from near despair to near continuous peace. At the same time, people are starting to approach me again when a couple years ago there were times that even my friends avoided me to some extent because I was so difficult to be around for my feelings and expressions of gloom, doom, and despair.

Modern medicine can fix many things about our bodies, and can help us somewhat with our minds, but when it comes to emotions and spiritual issues the Holy Spirit is the answer, and brings us the joy and peace.

Christ gave us His peace, and so I think one should anticipate finding that peace in one’s religion. We may find vocations that bring us challenges, but our faith is such that we can retain His perfect peace even amid the “storms” of life.

It is good to know brothers who love Christ how He loves us, even if it is in a small way

Since I have joined this groop of people I have had times of tears of joy, and of feeling the love of Jesus come upon me through reading how others as you, love Jesus and wish others to live the same way.
My life is full of Gods providence and of great miricles. However there is nothing that is greater (to me) than to feel the Love which is unconditional from our God who is so much the greatest person to Love us ever, to come upon me, and leave me in tears.

I come from one of three small islands called New Zealand and we hear all the wrong doings in larger places but to hear and to see in your writings how you love Jesus , oh what can I say.

I may fall in love with a woman deeply but you know, I can and have fallen in love with Jesus the same way, and more. I wish all to fall in love with our God “unto folly” and also to offer our selves to His Merciful Love as a “victim of holocaust” (St Therese the little flower) because the love we get in return is unconditional, it is the greatest cover of ourselves that we could ever have, there is NO other fullness like it, it can buckle our knees.

There is no greater love than that which our Father in heaven the Holy spirit and Jesus offer to us in relation to our human life on this earth and more. There is so much more, I relate the universe fitting into the smalllest part of Gods finger nail how minute all is and how futile our desires are if they are not centred on Jesus Christ, the Trinity which is eternal LOVE and our dear mother Mary who loves Her children (us) with an ever lastiing love. How great it is to have the saints and angels as our brothers and sisters how blessed we are.
How loved we are.

To love a God as He is, is the most …even the word filling does not suit what i wish to express

God bless you who love our God who is LOVE.
Mercy and grace on those who have not as yet given themself to Him.

What beatiful replies to this thread. Another lovely thread from Barb. There isn’t anything I can add of any weight because those who have already posted have spoken for my heart too.

It just occurs to me that for us to be happy we need to be loved and until we love God and we recognise how much He loves us all the time, we cannot be happy. Only true happiness is found in Jesus because He is Love.

Thank you for all of your words, they are uplifting and echo the joy and happiness of this Holy Easter Season. God Bless each of you. 🙂

The mere fact that God still loves me even when no-one else does (or when I think no-one else does) has been reason enough for me to have hope and to stay alive. (I don’t tend to share much details about this though, especially face to face).

There is no $drug, $balm, $sauve, $medical device or $therapy ( all good things in their proper perspective) that gives me the love, peace and joy that Jesus freely gives everyone.
