Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me with this portion of Pope Paul VI’s Creedo of the People of God:

We therefore hold, with the Council of Trent, that original sin, is transmitted with human nature, “not by imitation, but by propagation” and that it is thus “proper to everyone.”[21]

Does this mean that origonal sin is neccesarily inherited through sexual transmission?

Actually, one can sexually transmit til their toes or whatever, fall off. That is not propagation as such.
Propagation is by way of Conception. When a child is conceived, and not until. The proximate cause of Conception is the intercourse, but conception does not always occur.
Our nature is propagated at conception. We propagate the same nature. That’s why when one discovers they are pregnant we say they are “with child” as opposed to “with kitten”. We have a foreknowledge that the microsopic fetus is going to arrive as a full member of the fallen human race.
Intercourse between a validly married couple is not a sin, original or otherwise. Hope I covered all the bases.
I hope you are over 13. If not, don’t read this. :o
