The media is covering this event as expected … poorly and with their agenda.
Which media outlets are you speaking of specifically? I thought Cardinal Dolan’s sit down interview with Christiane Amanpour was excellent. She was being the credible journalist that she is, which includes asking the hard questions, and he did an excellent job in answering her.

They were clearly very respectful of each other and what each other represents. (her role as journalist, his role as cardinal of the Catholic church.)

Well said. Pope Benedict will always be in my prayers. He is a good and faithful shepherd of Christ’s church. And, Holy Mother Church will find her way with the help of the Holy Spirit.
After all, remember … the gates of hell will not prevail against her.

ad multos annos Holy Father :gopray2:

pax et bonum
Often understood, for some reason, as if Hell is on the attack. Nope. It is the Church that is on offense, pounding down the gates of Hell. Someday (soon?), they will fall. Our Savior has already won the war; we are fighting mop up operations. 🙂

Wow. I like that image 🙂

Yes. May God bless and keep our Holy Father.

Of all the things he has said in the past few days, this is the one thing that made me lose it emotionally:

:crying:

And this next is what each and every Catholic should adopt as their own:
Thank you & God bless you.:o

Your interpretation of this phrase is contrary to the meaning as understood by the Catechism of the Catholic Church, here quoting St. Maximus’ reference to our Lord’s promise:

834 Particular Churches are fully catholic through their communion with one of them, the Church of Rome “which presides in charity.” “For with this church, by reason of its pre-eminence, the whole Church, that is the faithful everywhere, must necessarily be in accord.” Indeed, “from the incarnate Word’s descent to us, all Christian churches everywhere have held and hold the great Church that is here [at Rome] to be their only basis and foundation since, according to the Savior’s promise, the gates of hell have never prevailed against her.”

A Protestant pastor (and no fan of Papal authority) writing on the same topic also rejects your interpretation which is apparently popular among Protestants:

Marie:

Not speaking of any outlets specifically but of many generally. Reading many articles lately on my MSN homepage which I believe give a slanted derogatory view against Holy Mother Church , the Pope and Catholicsm in general. Of course, I don’t believe this is especially new since Pope Benedict resigned. I seem to recollect Cardinal Muller ( if I’m not mistaken ) warning recently about media instigating an artificial antagonism against the Catholic Church. I , for one , can see that .
