VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis, leading the world’s 1.2 billion Roman Catholics in Palm Sunday services leading up to Easter, on Sunday criticized those who he said were washing their hands of the fate of desperate refugees.
Francis blessed palm and olive branches in St. Peter’s Square before tens of thousands of people to commemorate Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jerusalem the week before the crowd turned against him and he was crucified.
He departed from his prepared homily to appeal to nations not to turn their backs on refugees.
After mentioning the part of the gospel recounting how Jesus was denied justice and abandoned to his fate, Francis added in unscripted remarks:
“I am thinking of so many other people, so many marginalized people, so many asylum seekers, so many refugees. There are so many who don’t want to take responsibility for their destiny.”

This makes me feel like the Pope is totally out of touch with the world outside the Vatican. What did the Germans do? They welcomed the migrants, but now things are not going well. And of course the story is the same in many places.

Why does no one ever say anything to Moslems? Why don’t they say, Hey Jihadists, you might cause people to turn against Moslems in general if you keep be heading people, torturing people, selling girls as sex slaves? Why don’t people ever say, Migrants, be grateful people are taking you into their countries and try to follow the rules of your hosts and stop groping the women there?

Seriously? After what has happened this past year, the Pope is saying to let in more migrants? How about not turning our backs on the already-resident citizens of the nations? Or at least a fuller explanation of what he means?

As a Baha’i I see His Love for all mankind genuine and Christ Like. I See that He is 100% in tune with what is required in this World.

God bless this wonderful Pope who is not appreciated by some members of the Catholic Church that Claim they posses on a regular basis on this forum “All Truth”.

What would make someone remark so poorly against the Pope. 🤷

“The Earth is but one Country ans Mankind its Citizens”.

Regards Tony

Our entire nation was formed because of migrants. I see no reason to turn our backs on them. If we end up getting hurt by it, leave the judging up to God.

TBH, I realize that I feel hurt by this. I feel like the West has welcomed and welcomed, and yet the Pope is acting like nothing bad is happening except for a lack of welcome on our parts.

We can care about and for them, not abandon them, and still not bring them here. We can meet their physical needs, protect them, and still not add to the risk Americans already face.
In fact, we may be doing more for them by caring for them there.

Jon
Exactly.

I don’t see why this is has to be framed as we must either bring thousands of people over here or you’re an evil racist.
