Why is the Pope even talking to the Anglicans when Archbishop Rowan lets his flock do whatever they like, i.e. Gay Marriage and Ordaining Women to the priesthood, etc…?
Is not the Holy Father the shepherd of all?Why is the Pope even talking to the Anglicans when Archbishop Rowan lets his flock do whatever they like, i.e. Gay Marriage and Ordaining Women to the priesthood, etc…?
I do believe that the Church of England is going in the wrong direction. However, I think it’s important to stick to the facts. Why is the Pope even talking to the Anglicans when Archbishop Rowan lets his flock do whatever they like, i.e. Gay Marriage and Ordaining Women to the priesthood, etc…?
Boy I don’t know, why are we talking to the Pope? He refuses to re-examine Anglican orders, wont ordain women, and has presided over a rather messy scandal. The answer is that we have far more in common than we have differences… our two churches are overall incredibly like minded… we must continue to work towards unity but as the Pope said not at the cost of truth. I don’t know if yohwatched the video of the meetings but all the bishops got along very well together and Pope Benedict and the Archbishop of Canterbury really do like each other a great deal. They are very theologically like minded. They were so happy to see each other! Eccumenism works in practice but not always in theory. Why is the Pope even talking to the Anglicans when Archbishop Rowan lets his flock do whatever they like, i.e. Gay Marriage and Ordaining Women to the priesthood, etc…?
Not all Anglicans are on board with Gay unions and the such. In fact, the majority of Anglicans in theology absolutely despise gay unions and actively gay clergy. It is only a small number of Anglicans worldwide who accept this.I do believe that the Church of England is going in the wrong direction. However, I think it’s important to stick to the facts.
First, we shouldn’t lump all Anglicans together in the same way we shouldn’t lump all Orthodox churches together. A common error made by many Catholics. There is no Anglican ‘Church’ but a community of Anglican churches.
I don’t know exactly who the Holy Father met. He would have certainly met bishops, etc. from the Church of England. Whether he met other members of the Anglican Communion I don’t know.
“Gay marriages” cannot take place in the Church of England. The Church of England is the established church in England. It is so closely tied in with the state that “gay marriage” would not be possible. Same sex couples cannot get married in England (or anywhere else in the UK) - the law prohibits it. Now, may be the Church of England is blessing same sex couples with some form of service, I don’t know but would hazard a guess that some clergy will provide this.
