**Pope asks Catholics to participate in events for Christian unity week

**VATICAN CITY – Pope John Paul II asked Catholics around the world to participate in ecumenical events and prayer services during the Jan. 18-25 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The theme for the 2005 celebration was “Christ, the One Foundation of the Church.” During his Jan. 16 Angelus address, Pope John Paul said, “I invite every community to organize significant gestures of ecumenical encounter and dialogue and to implore from God the gift of the full unity of Christ’s disciples.”

Many bishops ignore the generous application of the TLM, but watch them jump on this one! Like hyenas on rotting flesh.
It will be interesting to see if the bishops that give this directive “generous application” are the same ones that refuse to give the same to “fellow Christians” who want the reasonable availability for the TLM.
We shall see.

Actually, I’m grateful and pray for opportunities like this. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to share our Catholic faith with others around us, particularly when so many non-Catholics have a tremendous lack of understanding of what the Holy Catholic Church is!

I haven’t read the whole article or transcript of the Pope’s remarks, but I think there is little cause for conern. He didn’t say “worship” together. He said pray and have “ecumenical encounter(s) and dialogue”. I’m with Fiat on this one. These are great opportunities to share our Faith.

God Bless,

Robert.

TNT expressed most of my concern.

I just have to be honest. I believe FIAT is dreaming. As soon as most Protestants learn you are Catholic, they look at you like a cold fish.

JP II said pray with others but he did not say Worship with them. Those other people do not want to hear anything Catholic.
