He’s older and he suffers from some bad eye problem, macular degeneration, I think, may God bless him.

Besides, God willing, perhaps Pope Benedict will live to an age comparable with Pope Leo XIII, who died at the age of 93. He’s in much better shape at 80 than Pope John Paul was at the same age.
Georg Ratzinger is the older brother, is niether a bishop or a cardinal, and he is retired (his post as Canon is only honorary), so I would not think that he is destined to be Pope.
That isnt much of a comparison though- Pope Benedict does not suffer from either Parkinsons disease or the aftermath of a bullet that took out part of his colon.

Being retired would not be an impedient to saying a TLM. There is a retired priest in residence at my parish. He said that he is brushing up on his Latin, so he can say a TLM. He may train my pastor and associate priest because they do not know any Latin (they were not taught it in the seminary). Once a man is ordained, he is always a priest. Even if he retires, he still can say Mass and hear confessions.
I believe the reference to Msgr. Ratzinger’s retirement was in response to one member’s wondering if he could be in line for the papacy, rather than any question regarding his celebration of Mass.
