Pope's Wednesday Audiences rule!

Is anyone out there familiar with what our Pope is doing in his Wednesday Audiences? Benedict spent the last year catechizing on the twelve apostles one by one and then moved through some of the other people from Acts (Paul, Timothy, Titus, etc). In the past month or so, he has followed the logical progression and is now discussing the early Church Fathers!

Prior to this, JPII started (and Benedict finished) a five year meditation on the Psalms and Canticles used in Lauds and Vespers! (Starting on March 28, 2001 and finishing on February 15, 2006).

There is such a wealth of reflection on Catholic prayers and teaching, it makes me wonder why it seems most people do not even know about it! I didn’t until recently, so I thought I’d share the wealth! 😉

Yes, I am resurrecting an old thread, but I started the thread so I feel okay about it. 😉

I’ve been working on collecting links to John Paul II’s and Benedict XVI’s Wednesday audiences into a more useable format (at least, more useable for me :)). I have organized the links by topic and posted them on my blog. Here is a link to the"Table of Contents", if you will:

I’m still working on it and hope to work my way backwards through to the “Theology of the Body” audiences at the start of JPII’s pontificate. So far, I’ve completed Benedict’s Catechesis on St. Paul (ongoing), the Early Church Fathers, and the Apostles, as well as John Paul II’s Catechesis on the Psalms and Canticles of Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer (which Benedict finished). All in all, it covers the period from early 2001 until the present.

If anyone has comments and/or suggestions, I would appreciate it. Thanks! 👍

It is a project born out of frustration of having to flip back and forth looking for particular audiences. Recently, Benedict’s audiences have started to include titles on the main page for his audiences, so it’s not as bad. But looking back through John Paul II’s Wednesday audiences is another story!

Thanks. I’m still working on it, so I hope it will become increasingly more helpful!

So far I’ve got the major catecheses from 1997 through 2008. I’m working on 1979-1997. Then, I’d like to go back and fill in the “gaps” (i.e. a page with links to all the reflections on the pope’s apostolic journeys, a page for audiences on Lent, Easter, Christmas, etc.). It’s an ongoing project! 😉

Since the Pope’s Wed. audience is only broadcast during the middle of the night for me, I’ve only seen a couple minutes of a couple of them - when I had insomnia. I’ve bookmarked your website, so I can look that way, now. Thanks!
