This thread is dedicated to pop culture stereo-types of Christians…for example

in the horror movies we see Christians don’t live in the city
Christians are Southern, back-woods, country-bumpkin types who are in-bred, ignant and thinkin’ of eatin yer sista

There are many more

Christians are often said to be “Bible thumpers”
or…goofy like Ned Flanders
or afraid of something (like President Obama pointed out “they cling to their guns and religion” as a means to cope with their fears)

FWIW, these stereotypes apply mainly to Fundamentalist Christians more than others, and not really to Catholics, for whom there are different stereotypes. Nonetheless, they are wrong and bad, as are all stereotypes.

Probably for Catholics is that we worship Mary and statues and are obsessed with rosaries. And all priests are pedophiles.

That’s what I’ve encountered at least. 😦

One of the many reasons I refuse to watch South Park.

MB is right…I surely don’t like it when I see stereotypes of atheists or secularists or feminists or journalists or New Yorkers or gay people or women or other religions or many other things here on CAF.
Dana Carvey is a brilliant comedian and SNL does a great job poking fun of stereotypes, as per my post…but on the whole, stereotypes are not good.
I would add liberals to your list!

Christians , according to many clueless people, are the ones who judge everyone and everybody, extremely conservative, narrow-minded puritans , who disapprove of any trend , movie, or element of pop culture. Many people regard Christians as completely alienated individuals, unfortunately.

Christians are popularly portrayed as anti-science, anti-progress and wanting to go back to the 1950’s…where they can have repressed sexual anxiety and worry about lawn care and suburban “paradise”.

How 'bout the warden hypocrite in the Shawshank Redemption…? Christians are often portrayed as hypocrites.
