A good friend of mine had a dream recently that I would like to share because of my belief of its deeply religious meaning possibly even a revelation.

In the dream she was brought by her uncle (who has been dead for 5 or so years) to a mountain surrounded by desert and many buildings with extensive damage. There were men, women, and children lying below dead. The mountain started to quake and she saw a man she believed was an angel. She described it as follows: It had 3 sets of wings one on its back, one across its chest and one on its feet. His eyes seemed like blazing fire and his legs were like pillars of fire. His head was had on it many crowns and a rainbow around his head. In the dream the angel opened his mouth and out came a sword that he grabbed and then held down to his side. Then the angel said (with a voice she described as a roar like a lion. “This sword will not cross over the land until all the good people are gone.”

Could this be a revelation?

I have asked her many times and she says he hasn’t read Revelatons before yet fits a combination of the angels described in Revelations 10:1- 3 and Revelation 19:11-16.

Any thoughts?

Nate,

There is a good chance that this dream really was a revelation. If it was, then … well, it is a private revelation that may be useful to people. But nobody, including you or the person to whom it was revealed, is to be forced to believe it. The Church is very strict about private revelations, and for excellent reasons.

For what it’s worth, I have meditated for some years on the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and Abraham’s bargaining with God to where finally if God found ten righteous people living there He would spare the cities. I have concluded from my meditations–and this, I think, carries even less weight than a private revelation–that having one’s city destroyed around one is extremely inconvenient, and God would like to spare His people this kind of inconvenience. For this reason, I think there are some righteous people in this country whose presence here is averting God’s judgement on our society. When they are gone, and if no new righteous people rise up in their place, God will execute judgement on the country and there will be … well, the wrath of God. I think your friend’s dream runs more or less along the same lines.

I must add that the dream probably doesn’t have anything to do with the end times.

I was reading about this dream, and in my opinion I don’t think it has to do with a revelation about the end of the world. Rather, I think it is more personal in nature, that is, your friend seems to have gone through many personal struggles which may have been over comed as represented by the mountain and the dead people below ( perhaps aspects of herself that she had to over come) including the death of her uncle which now she may have come to terms with. Having overcome these crisis in her life I believe the angel’s appearence is more of a personal challange in how to move on and live the rest of her life - perhaps the struggle is to see the good in others despite past experience.
