Hello all!

I’m in Florida right now at my aunt’s house. They live about 10 minutes from Sarasota and there is a parish there that offers the TLM. This will be my first time attending one, God willing. I have been to Novus Ordos in the past, and for the past year have been attending Maronite Divine Liturgies. I am attending Ave Maria University this fall (I’ll be moving to the campus in a few days :D) and they offer it almost daily, I believe.

The parish that I will be attending is St. Martha’s. I’m looking for advice on what to expect, prayer postures, if there are any liturgical books, etc and how to prepare prior to and during the Liturgy. Any and all advice/comments are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Well, here are the propers of todays Mass…

And you can take a crash course here…

They should have small red booklets (missals) at the church. I’d suggest reading the rubrics and watching the priest. This will tell you what part of the Mass he is praying. It will be tough to keep up the first time, but the rubrics will help.

Do go !

Well, I went today. It was really nice, but I was somewhat disappointed. I had heard people make a big deal about it, but I guess it didn’t match my expectations. The priest said prayers silently most of the time, and I didn’t even know when the Pater Noster was said, because I got confused at what was happening at what parts. Not sure if this is part of all Tridentine Masses, but the people barely said anything. In the little Missal that they had, I said the parts the laity were supposed to say, but no one else really said it.

They did have Gregorian Chant, which was beautiful.👍 I’ll probably have more opportunities to go when I get to AMU, but I have to say, I’m much more fond of the Maronite Divine Liturgy.

I have noticed the custom in the other TLMs in west central Florida (St. Jude’s in St. Pete and St. Theresa in Spring Hill) that the servers only say the responses (this is a legitimate and traditional way to do it too). Most other places however do the “dialogue Mass” where the people say the responses as well.

First time? Just go, sit in the back and take it all in. Receive whatever graces God has for you.🙂 You shouldn’t feel like you need to follow every little thing. That takes time.🙂

Are you able to receive Jesus? Just go up and kneel at the rail when it’s your turn and don’t say, “Amen.” Just receive, bless yourself and go back to your seat.

Let us know how it goes.👍
