Group Launches Post-Abortion E-Cards

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A nonprofit organization has unveiled a series of electronic greeting cards that concerned friends and relatives can send to a woman after she chooses to have an abortion.

Like Exhale’s confidential talk line for women who have had abortions, the six e-cards available on the group’s Web site were designed to be nonpartisan and encompass the range of someone’s potential responses to going through an abortion.
“Women having abortions are calling our line because often they don’t have someone to talk to—it’s a stigmatized issue,” said Aspen Baker, founder and executive director of Oakland-based Exhale.
One card expresses sympathy, offering the gentle reminder that, “As you grieve, remember that you are loved.” **Another provides encouragement for someone who “did the right thing.” **Yet another strikes a religious tone with the thought that “God will never leave you or forsake you.”

It is sad. It isn’t a stigmatization issue, it’s an issue of realizing you have paid someone to kill your child. I went to exhale’s website. Its premised upon false compassion and a desire to convince women that while what they’re feeling is normal, it’s not grief for a child you will never hold. Keeping these women in denial and away from truth will keep them from healing. Ultimately it will push them toward self-destruction because acknowledging that you killed your child is judgmental. Being judgmental is the only secular sin.

People forget that, though God will not abandon us, we can, and often do, abandon God.

That is so bizarre. The article says something about a magazine called* Exhale* for women who have aborted their babies to read stories, poems, letters and rituals. What?!?! I wonder if they will include recipes and crafts, too. 😦

The existence of the magazine shows the psychological/spiritual pain that abortion causes women, rather than condemn it maybe we should do more to reach out to them.

As for the cards, check them out. Only one is approving, “you did the right thing” one is basically an advert for the Exhale hotline/website, two are sort of neutral and one offers condolences ?].

I did check it out. Their mission is to make women feel better by keeping them in denial of the fact that they actually killed their own child. Their secular approach does not acknowledge that the abortion was wrong, it just tries to get rid of the side effect of guilt. Rachel’s Vineyard is worthy of our support. This is not. Do not be beguiled.

Though personally I think using a resource like this is inappropriate it does show us one thing - the people who started this resource have a fleeting feeling that abortion is damaging to women. Let’s pray that maybe someday they may extend and deepen that thought to the reason why it is damaging.
