What is remarkable is that in the 40’s there was dialogue between nations, and still the nation reps managed to fly to meetings with allies and the undecided. After the war, the nations, with good intentions, determined they needed a central meeting place to resolve issues, the UN.
The irony is that nations today no longer listen to their own governing bodies, never mind seeking the thoughts of the UN. Lobby groups hold sway, and the media steer opinion. They cater to the whims of their militants or big business. Hypocrisy is no longer something to correct, it has become a benign part of the nation’s character trait. The nations of the UN vote a unanimous protest, but the truant nation will give no ear to it’s decision. Technology has introduced convenience into their weapons, and now they no longer need to look into the eyes of those they kill and maim.
Thank God what can’t be hidden is policy. On a principle, the nation may justify it’s aggression against another nation or individual, or try to portray a united charitable front, but the world eventually sees the inconsistency of it’s application throughout the world. For instance the aiding nation may claim it’s works of charity in the world, but there is a pattern that develops. In order for the nation in need to qualify for the largest portion, it now needs to possess a wealth of natural resources.
Haiti comes to mind. After WW2, a helping North American nation with supplies sets a goal to traverse a vast Pacific to rebuild a once hostile nation, but a tiny island nation a few miles off it’s shore in the Atlantic doesn’t warrant a rebuild. Today, planes fly over it to deliver aid to allies that had a need for it after the rebuild of the WW2, but now, like an indifferent spoiled boy throwing his Christmas presents into an already overfilled closet, uses it has finance to torment the nations around it.
The world has changed for the worse. The devil’s key strategy of Separation is apparent among nations as it is with individuals. As long as he can keep us from talking to each other, from being good listeners, from shying away from diplomacy, and substituting that with ‘distance’ aggression, we are headed for destruction, just has he planned.
