I’m just looking to see what folks think about 13,000 US Catholic Churches receiving PPP forgivable loans during this pandemic crisis. I find it concerning because it is a religious institution potentially receiving government funds.

Does anyone have any information? If this is commonplace practice these past few decades or beyond? Could this negatively impact the mission of the church?

Please no debate on whether the church or the government is keeping you safe and saving lives, a little burnt out on that debate. Thanks in advance for friendly dialogue even if it’s critical of my thoughts. 🙂

There’s already at least one and possibly two threads on this elsewhere on the forum. I would suggest using the search feature, rather than starting yet another thread.

Also, World News is generally for posting and discussing a news article.

Edited to add, I found the other threads for you

Not sure why you’re being upset. I just posted the three threads that we’ve already had on this; if you really want to know what people on here think, you should find these useful.

Have a nice day.

I responded before you put links, thank you. It just feels unwelcoming to be corrected instantly that I posted wrongly…
You didn’t put the threads in right away. I will delete this thread when I figure it out. Thanks.

It’s wonderful and will help so many struggling parishes and Catholic schools to be able to pay their employees.

Religious institutions receive government funds in many contexts, in the US and elsewhere.

This is not troubling at all.

About the PPP? Google it. Information is readily available.

This is a unique, one time forgivable loan through the SBA.

No.

Quite the opposite. It is helping parishes and dioceses across the US maintain services to parishioners and the public.

Are you concerned about something specific?
