Practice,practice, practice

Can the practice of doing teach us how to recognize whether or not our consciences are reliable and our instincts are telling us the truth?

I would say no. The Bible says, There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death. Conscience is a good thing, but you still need scripture and the magisterium to keep you on the right track.
