On the contrary, it is a noble & charitable thing( a spiritual work of mercy) to care about the morality of others. Indeed we must look after ourselves and make sure we are in good relationship with Christ, but part of our mission as Catholic Christians is to proclaim the Gospel.

If I love you then I ought to care about these things… I don’t want your relationship with Christ ruined because of a lack of knowledge about morality. Of course I can’t force you to accept what the church teaches, but I see nothing wrong with pointing out that you are doing something wrong…

Your brother in Christ,
Zachary
Proclaiming the Gospel does not mean meddling in people’s lives, particularly in their bedrooms. It means broadcasting the Good News so they can discover the Truth for themselves, with the help of competent teachers, of which I am not. We are as likely to do harm and turn them away from the Church by meddling. That would not be charitable nor serving the Gospel.

And the best way to proclaim the Gospel, for a layperson, is to try to lead a life of example by having your own morals sorted out and obvious to others without having to toot your horn about it. Not by being the Bedroom Police.

Hmmm. Rather chastisement by a lay person, or priest. Chastisement by God carries heavier penalties. I wonder what the apostles would say to this couple. “Gee Guys, it’s okay to give scandal. Christ didn’t mean it when he talked about that millstone around the neck.”

First of all - Lets be clear.
There is no such thing as a Practicing catholic (actively) gay couple.

That being said, if these people are living a celibate life they are not sinning. However it would be better for them and for the community if they lived apart.

The statement you make above that, “This is in a relative’s diocese & they claim that homosexual behavior is not seen as a grave issue there.” **The Catechism **says this:
Chastity and homosexuality

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. **Under no circumstances can they be approved. **

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

By the above we can see that the church sees homosexuality as a grave matter. She also declares taht it cannot be condoned in any way.
So
If they are living in sin, and this is being tolerated/glossed over/condoned by the priest then this priest will have much to answer for at judgement. He is permitting a sinful situation to continue without addressing it effectively.

For those who, “claim that homosexual behavior is not seen as a grave issue there”, you might want to show them what the official church teaching is on the matter. That way they cannot plead ignorance.
That pretty much sums it up:thumbsup:

Here’s something I just don’t get: 2 professionals who attend Mass, they’re involved in the parish & hold positions of great responsibility in the deeply Catholic community, well respected & each previously married with several kids.
The trouble is that they live together & describe each other in public as their " life partner."
Noone’s assuming they live chastely together, but I suppose that’s an option to consider in charity.
This is in a relative’s diocese & they claim that homosexual behavior is not seen as a grave issue there. I’m confused, but a little suspicious that it may also be this wealthy couple’s professional skills,& generous donations to the Church & community that makes their acceptance into an otherwise conservative Catholic environment possible.
I truly believe in charity & believing the best of folks. Maybe you can live chastely yet still publicly proclaim yourselves a gay couple? Still sounds like an occasion of scandal…:confused: I’m confused.
Its bull, and a public stunt is all it is.
The Spirit of the church should drive them out, but I doubt they are actually even Catholic
because the Spirit of the Church hasn’t driven them out of its environs…

They are not Catholic, I gaurentee you no babtised Catholic could stand to be in there church if they were openly homosexual… They are not Catholic, they are pretending to be
Catholic is what it amounts to.

If they are Chaste then they are Not Gay by the Church. If you are not engaging in the lifestyle the Church basically doesn’t consider them to be homosexual.

If they are practicing their lifestyle and are catholic, you wouldn’t see them because the
Spirit of the Church would drive them out of the Church.

So its a stunt, and it is doubtful that the two are even Catholic. Its a farce, do you know
how heavy the assault would be on those two for engaging in a homosexual lifestyle. It would drive them out of the parishioners midst.

Its a Modern Society, PC trick… They are in there as a political end, trying to turn the
Parishioners opinions against the Church…

EVIL cannot stand in the Presence of HIM, it parts from HIM in seven directions…

I know a lesbian woman , she can’t even attend church, she is babtised Catholic,
She can’t even set foot in the Church…

So its a stunt, Because the Spirit will act ot execute the WORD, and the Word
is EVIL parts from HIM in seven directions… They couldn’t stay in the Church…

So all the Children of the Church are being subjected to “I have two daddy’s.” BULL SH___
And the Diocese … Its a game Mam, the Church doesn’t want to face a defimation Lawsuit, those two Catholics, are not Catholics, and its a left wing political stunt…

You Diocese knows it, but with the left in Power in Washington, they are just itchen , itchen to cause a problem and have the Catholic Church fight them, because it will
create so much negative press for the vatican , they think that…

That is a tragedy that so many family’s have to be subjected to that kind of garbage…

So they have Positions of Deep responsability to do they?

So “BE YE WISE AS SERPENTS AND HARMLESS AS DOVES.”

those two are setting up for a lawsuit. that is what they want.

A priest, yes of course. That’s the priest’s job. But a layperson doesn’t operate behind the seal of the confessional and does not teach authoritatively. We are not apostles, the priests are the descendants of the apostles. The priest will have pastoral formation and will know how to approach these issues delicately for maximum effect. A layperson has a risk of making the situation worse through lack of tact.

The priest will likely be privy to more information than a layperson because of the degree of confidentiality afforded by the confessional. That is, IMHO, the best place to deal with these issues. That, or a private meeting between the priest and couple.

I like the approach Jesus took with the adulteress: he invited those without sin to stone her. Nobody came forth. Then he told her to go and sin no more. He rightly recognized that we are all sinners and scandalous to some degree. It seems quite clear from that episode that condemnation should be very careful indeed when it comes from laymen who are sinners.

Since the priests stand in for Jesus in the Church, I’m quite happy to leave the dealing with scandal up to them, and do my evangelizing by trying my best to lead a life of example.
