Praise for my daughter's prayer

My wife and I converted to Catholicism last September, and we had out 4 children baptized a month later. Our 7-year old daughter suffers from Asperger syndrome and a profound depression/anxiety disorder, and hasn’t been too keen on learning our new religion.

I sent a prayer request to a few of my closest and most reliable prayer warriors regarding some problems we’ve been having with this daughter, and one of my best buds responded that he’d like to join me in a novena of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, which we started Monday evening.

Last night, I decided to pray the chaplet in the family room, rather than our bedroom as I usually do. The children were playing and watching television as I held my rosary while quietly reciting the prayers.

After a few moments, I felt the presence of a little body next to me on the sofa, and I opened my eyes to see our 7-year old daughter, clutching her own set of beads while softly reciting the prayers of the Holy Rosary!

I honestly don’t know if I’ve ever heard or seen anything so beautiful in my entire life, especially in light of the fact that this is the child who doesn’t display much interest in religion.

Praise be to Jesus Christ, now and forever! And thanks be to God, who answers all of our prayers! And Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope!

What a wonderful post. It goes to show that kids do need religion and God.

What a great blessing! Another great example of how praying the rosary can be a means of obtaining many blessings. I will keep you, your daughter, and your entire family in my prayers!

Thank you, everyone!

I forgot to mention the most impressive part. After praying one decade of the Rosary, she got to the “Glory Be,” and stumbled over a few of the words. When this happens with other activities, particularly reading words she’s never seen before, she usually screams “OH, I CAN’T DO IT!”

This time, she said, “Glory be to the Father… ummm, mommy, how does that go again?” :dancing:

:clapping: the Rosary sure does seem to have a lot of fringe benefits. I wonder if the calming, meditative and repetitive aspect of it somehow has an effect on the mind?

get a few more religious images for your home and hopefully they will inspire her as well.

Definitely. A gentleman with Asperger syndrome used to post here, and he suggested that the predictable pattern of many Catholic devotions would comfort our daughter, and it seems he was right.

Thanks! We have a few crucifixes, still in boxes, and we’re planning on hanging them this weekend.

What a beautiful story and what a blessing my friend. This brought tears to my eyes. I know how you feel. I have a disabled daughter as well. I will keep her in my prayers :gopray:

Thank you! And, as you can imagine, it brought tears to our eyes, too. For some reason, she really responds when I bring out my rosary beads and start praying with them.

Oh, He’s blessed us beyond our wildest dreams.

I’ve joined a Bible study at our parish, and we’re reading the book of Revelation. Today we covered chapters 4 and 5, including the following verses:

Rev. 5:11-12 (DRB) - And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, and the living creatures, and the ancients; and the number of them was thousands of thousands, Saying with a loud voice: The Lamb that was slain is worthy to receive power, and divinity, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and benediction.

Our deacon asked, why would the Lamb (Jesus Christ) be worthy to receive all of these things, when they are some of His defining attributes? The answer, he says, is in the sacraments. We receive grace that prompts us to give back everything He so generously offers to us. What an awesome opportunity!
