My husband and I are currently living with his parents. It’s been a little awkward at times (through no one’s fault, really), but overall, it’s been good, and I’ve been thankful to be going through my first pregnancy so close to my MIL (since my mom is so far away).
Originally, we hoped to be in our own place by Easter, but since DH didn’t start his new job (which is still technically temporary) until the end of March, it wasn’t possible. At the end of May we decided we’d need to stay with his parents for a couple of months after Bean was born, and that was fine with everyone.
However, this morning, DH forwarded me an email from a coworker whose sister is looking to rent her condo, as she’s moving to a house. She owns the condo, but needs more room, and wants the added income of a rental property. It sounds like a good deal, and it’s within our budget range for rent based on DH’s income (plus the little I bring in each month from freelance writing from home).
The drawback is that she’s looking to rent it out as early as the end of July, and I’m due Aug. 17th. There are two things that immediately come to mind with this situation:
I don’t know.
It would be wonderful to be in our own place (much closer to DH’s office!) when Bean arrives, especially since my FIL is retiring at the end of August, so there would be a lot of family in town. That would make it hard to settle into our own routine!
I’ll be praying about this, and DH and I are going to look at the financial aspect today, and possibly look at the condo this weekend.
Part of me thinks this opportunity is being presented because I’ve been praying about how the logistics of having a newborn at our in-laws’ home will work, especially while family is here for the retirement (and DH’s family is Italian, so they’re not very good at staying quiet). Many of my prayers have been “What should we do, Lord?” Maybe this is the answer.
I’m trying not to get too excited since it may not work out, but I’m still cautiously optimistic!

- Being 8 months pregnant and moving to a new place in Florida’s July heat is not really my idea of fun, and
- Since we’re still working on getting back up on our feet, I’d be afraid we might struggle with bills at the beginning with connection fees and things like that.
