Due to my current situation (relocated to a different state from my pregnant wife and 3 children for work) I have been reflecting on how difficult this is on all of us and came upon this song by Casting Crowns:
I was sure by now,
God You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away,
And stepped in and saved the day
Once again, I say Amen, and it is still raining
As the thunder rolls
I barely hear you whisper through the rain
I’m with you
As your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away
I’ll Praise you in this storm
And I will lift my hands
You are who you are
No matter where I am
And every tear I’ve cried
You hold in your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will Praise You in this storm
I was just curious if anyone else has weathered a storm and how they did that? What was it that kept you going during that difficult time?

I have rediscovered my prayer life and have been able to make it to adoration about 2 or 3 times a week. I have been able to read the bible more, as Fr. Larry Richards says “no bible no breakfast, no bible no bed.” I am not a very patient person and was slapped in the face with 1 Corinthians Ch 13 “Love is patient, love is kind.”

Things are still tough and I feel as if the rain is still pouring and the wind is crashing, doing my best to make it through. Knowing that my wife is such a strong and amazing woman eases my mind. She can handle so much, she should not have to, I should be there to help her, but she does it, it is not easy, but she does it.

Oh, I’ve been weathering a storm…praying for years…In recent months I’ve been so empty that I find myself praying the rosary with no intentions. I will tell you something though, that is that you can endure more than you can imagine. I will also tell you that when you are at the point that you can’t handle it anymore, just be honest with God about that, and you can count on him to send you just what you needed. It’s really true.

If you haven’t already then buy that CD. There are so many songs that i love. I listen to it in the car almost every morning.

What keeps me going is Jesus. KNowing that this short time period of the storm is nothing that he can’t handle because he has calmed the storms before. You have to trust and keep your eyes on him and let him led you. Follow him even when it is hard because the reward will out weigh the storm.

HEre is another one that I love and it talks about seeing the strength and faith in others (like you see in your wife) while not seeing the faith and strength in yourself. It’s about seeing all those around you as perfect while you see yourself as failing.

is there anyone that fails
is there anyone that falls
am i the only one in church today feelin’ so small

cause when i take a look around
everybody seems so strong
i know they’ll soon discover
that i don’t belong

so i tuck it all away, like everything’s okay
if i make them all believe it, maybe i’ll believe it too
so with a painted grin, i play the heart again
so everyone will see me the way that i see them

are we happy plastic people
under shiny plastic steeples
with walls around our weakness
and smiles to hide our pain
but if the invitation’s open
to every heart that has been broken
maybe then we close the curtain
on our stained glass masquerade

is there anyone who’s been there
are there any hands to raise
am i the only one who’s traded
in the altar for a stage

the performance is convincing
and we know every line by heart
only when no one is watching
can we really fall apart

but would it set me free
if i dared to let you see
the truth behind the person
that you imagine me to be

would your arms be open
or would you walk away
would the love of jesus
be enough to make you stay

I am going to have to see if I can find that song, I really like them (CC), I have a lot of their songs on my mp3.

Another song that is helping me in this situation is Rescue by Newsong.

Anyone else have any stories about weathering the storms in their lives?

how long are you going to be seperated?
I came out to CO on the 11th of last month and have only been home for about 5 days since then. Right now it has been almost a month that I have been away with 2 short trips back to see my family.

Originally we were going to relocate from MO to CO, however since the bottom has dropped out of the housing market, selling our home (which has been on the market for 4 months and gone through a price reduction) is not very promising. We have had only 2 or 3 people walk through the house in 4 months. We cannot lower the price anymore or we will take a loss on it and have no money for a down payment on another home.

Right now, I do not know how long we will be seperated. There is not even a dim light at the end of this tunnel. I am trying (unsuccessfully) to get a job back home, but am having trouble with that as well.

What has helped me to weather the storms, and there have been more than a few, is to maintain an attitude of gratitude. Try to concentrate more on the good things that God is providing to you and your family rather than on how tough it is, which can really drag a person down lower. To think often of how good God has been to you, makes it a bit easier to get through the tough times. And remember that your situation is only a temporary one, even if it feels like it might be forever! A good friend of mine lost a son to leukemia last summer, and she has been a powerful witness to hope. Thank God for the good things in your life! I know how tough it is, and I’ll be praying for you. God bless you.

Thank you for the advice, I am trying that as best that I can. I guess that I have good days and bad days. Lately they have been bad and an I have been trying to praise Him in this storm.
