Ukrainian Orthodox brethren need all of our prayers.

Today, two of the three Ukrainian Orthodox Churches (the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kiev Patriarchate and Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church - UOCKP and UAOC. There is also the Ukrainian Orthodox Church - Moscow Patriarchate which is seeing dwindling numbers and support) met in a Unification Council.

The two Churches have agreed to combine into one Church, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). In January, once the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople (EP) grants the “tomos” of autocephaly, the OCU will become the 2nd largest Eastern Orthodox Church in the world (the top 3 will then be the Russian Orthodox Church with 150 million souls, the OCU with 25 million and Romanian Orthodox with 23 million.)

Kiev is the historic center of Slavic Christianity, the true heartland of Slavic Christendom. This 2nd largest of the Eastern Orthodox Churches will be in full communion with the most important Orthodox Church, the EP.

But it seems the Eastern Orthodox communion of Churches is splitting… Aside from the issues between the Serbs and the Macedonian Orthodox Church and the Russians and Belarusian Orthodox Church (the Macedonians and Belarus’ have over 5.5 million believers), there is also the ongoing disputes and lack of communion between the Churches of Antioch and Jerusalem, and now also this powderkeg in Ukraine.

Even the Holy Mt Athos is now involved, with Russia saying some pretty nasty stuff about it.

Anyway, it seems the Eastern Orthodox communion is crumbling… There is so much infighting, intrigue, lack of communion and division, one barely knows what to think or even where to start in order to formulate the thoughts about what to think…

I am thinking there’s a real possibility the Primatial Orthodox Church (the EP) and the 2nd largest Orthodox Church may try to get the Macedonians, Belarusians, and maybe the Antiochians to split away from the rest of the Eastern Orthodox (who from then on will be de facto under the Moscow Patriarchate, which will finally realize its ambition to become the ‘third Rome’).

I also wonder if there’s any possibility the OCU and EP may seek reunion with Rome.

This is a very precarious and interesting situation…

So let’s all pray especially for the Ecumenical Patriarchate and our great friend and ally His All Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew, for the newly created Orthodox Church of Ukraine and its newly selected Primate Metropolitan Epifaniy, for the Russian Orthodox Church, for all the canonical Eastern Orthodox, for the large Churches in Macedonia and Belarus seeking recognition from their fellow Orthodox Christian brethren, and for Jerusalem and the Antiochians.

Let us also pray for an end to all heresy and schism, and that all Christians may be One in the Unity of the Holy Spirit,

Amen.

Dear Jesus, in Your name I pray that you heal all these schisms among our brothers and make us all one in you. Thank you in advance. Amen.

Mother Mary, St. Joseph, and all the fathers and doctors of all the Orthodox and Catholic churches, please intercede. Thank you. Amen.

Dear Lord, we pray for our brothers and sisters in Ukraine, descendants of the Kievan Rus, and first converted to Christianity under Vladimir the Great. In this time of trial and tribulation for them, grant them faith and patience and may the East and West come into One Church, as it was in the beginning. Amen.

Prayer for Church Unity

Lord Jesus Christ, Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, give us the strength to love as You commanded us.

When You said to your disciples, "Love one another, as I have loved you," and give us grace and wisdom to fulfill this command every day.

Through your Holy Spirit, give us the courage to humble ourselves in front of others, understanding that the one who loves more humbles himself so much more.

Teach us to pray for each other and to bear each other’s burdens patiently.

By the bond of an unwavering love unite us around our venerable patriarchs and bishops like the docile sheep of a single flock around their pastors whom they love.

Give us to see in each of our brothers and in each of our sisters the image of your ineffable glory, and never forget that our brother is our own life.

And place us under the protection of your Most Holy Mother, your Precursor John the Baptist and our venerable Doctors, Fathers and Confessors of the Faith.

Did you just compose that yourself?

That is a beautiful, Spirit-breathed prayer.

No - it is being used in the Archdiocese of Russian Orthodox Churches in Western Europe [ EP ] during the Insistent Litany now.

Wow, definitely a Theopneustos prayer!

God bless our Eastern Orthodox Catholic brethren with peace and unity and drive out all hatred and division.

When you wrote [EP] did that mean the Russian Churches under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarch in Western Europe?

did indeed 🙂
Okay…

I stand firmly with the Ecumenical Patriarch His All Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew and the newly created and second largest EO Church in the world the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and their Primate Metropolitan Epiphanios.

Kiev is the true spiritual center of Slavic Christendom, and Constantinople is the true spiritual center of Byzantine Christianity.

Moscow is overstepping its authority trying to usurp that which rightfully belongs to Constantinople and Kiev.

Sts. Peter and Andrew, pray for us
Sts. Cyril and Methodius, pray for us
St. Vladimir the Great, pray for us
Holy Passion-Bearing Martyrs Boris and Gleb, pray for the Christian people of Ukraine and Russia!

Troparion Tone 2: O Genuine passion-bearers and true followers of the Gospel of Christ, chaste Boris and Gleb, you did not oppose your brother-turned-enemy who killed your bodies but could not touch your souls. Therefore, let the wicked lover of power shed tears of lament while you rejoice in the presence of the Holy Trinity with angelic choirs. Pray that the land of your kinsmen may be pleasing to God and that all the children of Rus’ may be saved.
