Pray more = sin more?

I’m almost out of hope! Why is it that the harder and harder I pray to God for protection from certain temptations, the worse the temptations become?

Inevitably I end up committing the sin because I don’t have the strength to fight it, and at times I feel like God is abandoning me to the devil (though I know deep down he wouldn’t do that).

The weird thing is that during those days/weeks when I don’t pray as much and ask for as much protection, the temptations are few and far between.

Does the devil attack harder the more you pray?

Dear M,

The first prayer we all ought to pray is the prayer of praise and thanksgiving. The problem is not with your praying. The problem is with reminding yourself of your temptations. You really need to avoid whatever causes you to think about your temptations. You just can’t go there in your mind. Just pray to express your love for the Lord.

I will be praying for you to overcome your temptations.
