New film coming in October about Ven. Fr. Patrick Peyton Popular Media
I love Fr. Peyton, I discovered him only a few years ago although I was well aware of “The Family that Prays Together, Stays Together” slogan from the 60s and early 70s. (it was so well-known that pop culture would parody it and Catholics would joke about it.) Apparently he drew huge crowds to his rosary rallies held all over the world. It would be awesome if he were beatified and canonized. I think he ended up being better known outside the US than he was at home. This looks like a great…
I was invited to the Crowdcast online preview of this film tonight because I joined the Fr. Peyton Guild a couple years ago. The film just wrapped up. It was a very interesting and moving film, with wonderful Irish music as well. I am sure anyone who prays the Rosary, or wants to pray the Rosary, would enjoy it.

It’s in theaters starting Oct. 9 (Friday). Check the website above to find a theater near you.

Since COVID times aren’t the greatest for getting people out to movie theaters, hopefully they will release it to streaming soon also.

In 2007, at the beatification of the Blessed Basile Moreau, founder of the Holy Cross Congregation, I was offered a DVD on F. Patrick Peyton.

I didn’t know who he was. The little documentary who was comment by a Philippina voice don’t make me particularly enthousiat about him.

It’s only today that I realize that he was a priest of the Holy Cross -which was why I was given this DVD…

Thanks wikipedia! I also learnt that his rosary crusades were organized and paid by the CIA as a way to counter communism in Latin America…That’s polemical.

But I am sure a movie will be very interesting. I hope i will be able to see it one day!

The movie explains, as have many other sources, that he did not realize the source of the funding at first and was naive about it and just happy to have money to bring the Rosary to more people.
When he became aware of the source and purpose of the funding, he stopped taking it.

Also, he did a great deal of rosary promotion before the involvement of the CIA as well as after.

I think it really does him a disservice to focus on that.

One other important thing to note that the movie doesn’t get into is how he was seemingly almost forgotten in USA during the late 60s, 70s, and 80s. He was drawing record crowds in foreign countries, but in US many of us grew up without ever hearing his name. The Rosary in USA was also not a popular form of prayer during that time; people were all into Scripture reading and charismatic prayers. My parents prayed the rosary basically because they were old and our pastor would sometimes try to get families to say it because he was old. It was considered old fashioned, like novenas. I heard of the slogan “The family that prays together stays together” but never heard the name Fr Peyton. I think he is probably better known at this point in a lot of non-US countries than in US.

Thanks you.

For historic accuracy, a movie is not reliable nor a source at all.

let specialists and historians to determine what is the thruth.

It’s a documentary, not a Hollywood film. 🤦‍♀️

With all due respect, if you haven’t seen it, then your comments on it are hardly reliable.

And if you don’t like Fr Peyton, that’s your prerogative. I like him and one day I’m sure he will be a great saint. I’m sure he’s also in Heaven and your criticism doesn’t matter at all. Good day!

I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and have memories of seeing Father Peyton on TV. He did make popular the saying “The family that prays together stays together.” In the fifties many churches had evening devotions on a week-night, once a week, which consisted of the rosary, and a litany for Our Lady. I remember it being called “Miraculous Medal” devotions.

Short movies that went with the mysteries of the rosary is something I remember seeing on TV. Father Peyton promoted the rosary very well with those movies. He taught me a lot about the rosary when I was very young, by seeing those TV movies.

One thing I learned from the movie is that James Dean had his first credited film role in one of Fr. Peyton’s “Family Theater” movies, playing the apostle John. I never would have guessed that!

I really hope this documentary becomes available on streaming, because I would very much like to see it. I have a prayer book with him his rosary meditations and have found it to be a beautiful book.

A little while ago, I came across this old children’s rosary put out by Fr. Peyton. It is actually a little plastic viewer with 3D slides for each mystery of the rosary. When my daughter is old enough, I do think it will be fun to try out.
(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Fr. Peyton really did a lot to help spread a love of the rosary.

Woo hoo!

I saw the film tonight, finally!

It was a tearjerker! Very emotional for me, I must say. I was nodding my head and saying “YES” out loud to an empty theater - I was the only one present, so I removed my mask…

I liked the segment in the Philippines when they interviewed Cardinal Chito. The bit about toppling dictator Marcos through the intercession of Our Lady and Fr. Peyton’s Crusade was simply amazing!

The stories of miracles were truly inspirational. I was enthralled by the archival footage of families praying, so much variety in race and culture and language, so much unity of faith and purpose.

Highly recommend. Five stars out of four. Do not miss this. Support it in the theaters, this is very important because it determines future funding and release scope and all sorts of other things. Do not wait for it to come out on streaming, go now. Theaters are empty, you won’t catch COVID-1984!
