Please, can some knowledgeable and charitable answer this poster’s question?
I think what the poster really want to know is whom will the prayers go to. Right? To God. The saints are just passing our prayers a little nearer to God.

Blessed John Paul II Pope

In prayer, then, the true protagonist is God. The protagonist is Christ, who constantly frees creation from slavery to corruption and leads it toward liberty, for the glory of the children of God. The protagonist is the Holy Spirit, who “comes to the aid of our weakness.” We begin to pray, believing that it is our own initiative that compels us to do so. Instead, we learn that it is always God’s initiative within us, just as Saint Paul has written. This initiative restores in us our true humanity; it restores in us our unique dignity. Yes, we are brought into the higher dignity of the children of God,the children of God who are the hope of all creation.

We pray to the Father, through the Son, In the Holy Spirit. Prompted by the Spirit our imperfect prayers are perfected by Jesus Christ, that they may be heard in His( Our Fathers) presence. The Saints behold the face of God and live. If your Lord and Master made any request of you, you would do it and this would bring you great joy.

Jesus requests His Saints participate in the prayer of the faithful. This Agape Caritas of Christ is a reward labor for the saints. He does not need their help, He permits it. This is joy in the Great Assembly, and pleasing to Our Heavenly Father.

You can always go directly to Jesus. You can also recruit a cloud of witnesses who pray without ceasing. Imagine the Communion of joy when we approach Our Mother. If indeed you are a Child of God. We should call our mom more often.

When I pray for grace or something similar I ask Mary to intercede and ask jesus to mediate this with the father. That’s what I’ve been doing lately. I hope this is valid.

When people pray to Saints they usually need extra prayers to get them through what ever problem it is and who better to go to than a Saint for extra help praying to God - your invoking the selected Saint to pray with you to God but ultimately all prayers are directed to God.If you don’t require help in your life you pray to Jesus/God directly. As for the Holy Mother , Mother of Mercy , we all need her intercession for penance and reparation as none of us are sinless and the Rosary is the perfect prayer for this.

Thanks for starting a good thread by the way. I joined this forum just tonight to get answers to tough questions like this. I’ve always been very, very uncomfortable with praying to anyone but God alone and still can’t understand why I’d be any better off asking a saint to intercede. I know God has time for my problems and I won’t get additional priority by escalating my issues via a saint. God, after all, is omnipotent and omniscient and is probably pretty good at multitasking.

I’d love to hear some additional comments as to why I might be wrong. I came here not to push my own ideas but to hopefully learn from others. Now to go search for answers as to why saints exist in the first place!

The way I understand it for example we may be out of sanctifying grace. That’s going to create a problem going to god right their except maybe for pennance and we may not be ready for pennance just yet. So the first thing is to ask those who are a step closer to god to intercede on our behalf. We may not know what we need but a saint and definately god does. In an example from my life I have depression and anxiety. I have asked DYmphna to pray for me sometimes it works sometimes not. But that’s feelings. I be in actual grace is the main thing.

Thanks for the response Billcu1. The argument is still that God won’t give his full attention to my prayer unless I go through an intermediary. It just seems wrong to me. If I wanted to get a message to the CEO of a big corporation I might ask one of his VPs to intercede for me because he’s more accessible than the CEO, but I can’t see the parallel here with God.

There is one intermediary. Jesus Christ. Your prayer is imperfect. nothing imperfect comes to the Father. Think of it as a translation/translator.

That I can accept! After all, Jesus Christ is God. I still don’t see how saints (who were people after all) should factor in.

I have read Jesus sent the holy spirit so it will ask what we need. Jesus is the mediator between us and god. Pray for the intercession of Mary and then I guess she goes to jesus. Who are we supposed to pray to? Geesh.
It’s very simple. Pray is an ancient English word that means to ask.
So, it’s as simple as 1, 2, 3.
  1. Give Worship only to God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and give God prayers of thanksgiving and petition.
  2. Ask your brothers and sisters who follow Christ join you asking God for what you need (this is intercession).
  3. Ask those righteous followers of Christ who are perfectly united with Him in heaven also for their prayers because Scripture tells us, the fervent prayer of the righteous avails much and who can be more righteous then those already perfectly united with Christ.
God bless.
