I am a teenager and have been much better lately at setting some time aside in my daily life to talk with God and pray. I also enjoy reading scripture and reflecting on it as well (journaling as I go). I enjoy my prayer, but it also tends to be very similar everyday. Today I have struggled with good prayer as I put off my prayer and am in a weird mood. I was just wondering if anyone had some prayer advice on some different ways to have fruitful prayer everyday. Thank you :))

The prayer of the Church is always fruitful. Look into the Liturgy of the Hours and consider saying Morning and/ or Night prayer. You will be joining daily with those all over the world.

It’s nice to hear that you’ve been better at making time for prayer. Well done.

Don’t be concerned about feeling a little put off or in a weird mood some days - it happens to everybody. Still pray on those days if you can.

I don’t know whether you’re going to ever feel like you have fruitful prayer every single day. I doubt anybody does (I could be wrong).

I personally find that praying a daily rosary keeps me better focused & more aware of my prayer life. This isn’t going to be the same for everybody though.

You mentioned that you’re praying, reading scripture & journaling. You could keep this up as it sounds as if it is giving you a little bit of the variety that you’re looking for. If you enjoy reading then expand on this - read some of the works of saints. Or there are many good Catholic books around, including a few written by the Catholic Answers apologists.

I’ve been listening to all of Bishop Fulton Sheen’s “Life Is Worth Living“ which are all uploaded onto podcast networks now. There is even an episode called “Prayer is a Dialogue” which may give you some help.

Just be careful with podcasts as there are some out there who present themselves as experts when it may not be the case and they can be very divisive.

Lastly - do you have any friends who are in a similar position? It can be fun (yes, fun) to discuss your opinions on the scripture that you are reading. If you have a friend your own age to discuss it with then it can be less intimidating than joining a church prayer group if you are young.

I’m not Catholic, but I use my denomination’s service book, which includes Morning, Evening, and Night Prayer, much like your Liturgy of the Hours. It is a great benefit to my partner and I (and my brother, who joins us digitally sometimes).

I have a companion book for all the commemorations in my denomination’s calendar. I’m sure there’s something similar for Catholics. I like to read the entry for the day (if there is one), and it often gives prayer and hymn suggestions.

Thank you for such a thorough answer with much help :)) This will definitely provide useful to me and I already do Bible studies with a friend from my church camp so the fact that you added that idea to the mix made me happy :))

I love to pray the rosary while looking at the clouds. Maybe try and change your scenery. The sky reminds me of God’s glory and beauty. Maybe sit on the porch, or look out a window at God’s creation. You don’t even have to be saying anything, you could just sit there and be. That is a form of prayer and it is very peaceful. Just listen to God.
