Hi! can anyone please tell me the difference between Honor and Worship, I mean what are the differences in the acts of Honor and Worship? When does Honor turn into Worship? Where is the difference in actions? It all looks the same in the Catholic church, exceipt for the Eucharist. Are there any acts of Worship and Honor that we do which is always reserved for God only?

Many times practicing Catholics do infact blur the line and in some cases do step over it. If someone walked up to me an put a gun to me and said bow down and worship this statue of Mary, I would refuse. If they demanded that I bow down and worship the Blessed Sacrament, they would not even need to ask.

Do we worship the pictures of our parents hanging on our walls? No.

Would you consider it worshiping pictures because we have locked doors, alarm systems and armed guards in art galleries?

Do we worship money because we lock it away in bank vaults? But we can be said to worship money when we are not willing to part with it to help the needy and hungry! It really is just a piece of paper!
 
You can honor your wedding vows, honor your husband/wife, honor many things without passing over to worship. In my opinion, it is how the heart feels when the actions take place. I know the difference in my heart when I kneel and worship God, and when I kneel and ask the saints to add their prayers to mine.

In my opinion, Maria has the answer. Whether it is honor or worship pretty much resides in the mind and intention of the doer. From the viewpoint of a third person, it would be very difficult to discern what is going down, unless they would hear words spoken aloud that would tell them. 🙂
 
Here is a good article from the Catholic Encyclopedia that describes the type of worship due God alone. Any act of “honor” or “veneration” of the Saints or Mary which crosses over into this realm is going too far.

Thank you for pointing this out, it is a good article.

Since there is no hard and fast line of demarcation between dulia and latria (that can be easily recognized both inwardly and outwardly by both participant and observers) the danger is always present of a person crossing the line or giving scandal.

Even priests and popular authors may inadvertantly make the mistake, laypeople with little formal training must be ever cautious and we all should remember that crossing this line is serious sin.

I wish an article of this nature was a mandated preface to all spiritual books.
