I apologize if this isn’t the right forum, but I wasn’t quite sure where this question would fit…

Anyway, my confirmation candidate will be going on retreat with the rest of her class in a few weeks. She has terrible anxiety and depression as well as body dysmorphia and she’s absolutely terrified about going but I know it could up being an amazing experience for her, as it was for me. I thought it would be nice to make her a prayer bracelet and maybe get it blessed by our pastor, that way she could have something to hold on to when she’s feeling freaked out. I’ve never made one before and was wondering if anyone could help me out. It would much appreciated!

Thanks,
Jeannine

I buy a lot of beads from firemountaingems.com
If you go to their website, there are a lot of tutorials about the various ways to make all kinds of jewelry. An easy way to go for a beginner is to use memory wire. Check it out!
Good luck…personal, homemade gifts are always cherished.

There are kits with instructions from Lewis & Company…been with them for years. Who knows…you may have found a new hobby! 🙂

YES! Lewis & Company are a great family run business. I buy eyepins from them. Best price on the internet. They are primarily a rosary making site. As the previous poster said, they have kits! Very cool!

I also love fire mountain. 😃 I found a place in Canada that sells beads in bulk…let me see if I can find them…thought they were St. Joseph’s but I seen to have lost the link.

I’m telling you, OP, once you start…

Is there a bead shop nearby you? The folks there would be happy to sell you the following:

13 to 15 beads
20 eyepins
Needle nose pliers with side cutters
Spacer chain

Or
13 to 15 beads
16" of wire
Crimps
Crimping tool

Or
13 to 15 beads
Seed beads for spacers
Snake or Tiger Tail coil wire
Needle nose pliers

…and a small Crucifix and/or Miraculous Medal

I believe there are even tutorials on YouTube and free printable instructions on the Lewis site.

Oh I agree with the “once you get started”…😉
I reckon at this stage I have made over 2000 rosaries for graduates of Catholic Schools, friends, relatives, clergy, and random people that I feel compelled to make one for, LOL.
My daughters see one I’m making and say "oh mama, can I have that one? (they must have dozens…sometimes they are promised to others.

Good luck with your bracelet! Post up a pic once you’ve completed it. 😃

Also, it took me several tries ( for ME) to perfect my craft. Don’t worry if you goof up or it looks wonky…just begin again! it’s SO FUN! But the directions that people have posted are easy to follow. You’ll do great!

Thanks, everyone for your help! Time is a factor because I procrastinated (sigh) and she leaves for the retreat next Friday so I don’t trust that any kit I order would be here in time for me to do it. But I found a couple of bracelets online that look fairly easy to recreate so I’m going to give it a try! One is representative of psalm 23 and the other represents the serenity prayer, both of which I think would be helpful for her. I think you’re right that once I start I won’t be able to stop! Wish me luck and I will post a picture of the finished products soon 🙂

All the luck to you and remember you can do these things together (and should) until and after her confirmation. XOXO

Can anyone think of symbols to represent serenity, courage, and wisdom? All the places I’ve been have beads with one of the words but never all three and I’m running out of ideas. I tried letter beads but that’s really not what I wanted to do and it’s sort of bulky that way. Help!

You could use semi precious stone beads (or just colored beads) that have those connotations, but be careful in ascribing those qualities to the actual beads lest it become new agey and superstitious (for example using rose quartz to symbolize love, not that the stone itself has any power).

I could also suggest blue for Marry (Serenity), red for courage (martyrs), and white for the Holy Spirit (wisdom).
