Please pray for me as I try to discern a vocation to the priesthood. Also, I need to decide (by tomorrow morning!) about going to a discernment retreat the week end of Nov. 4-6. The problem is that I have been unable to get off from work. So I may have to quit work in order to be able to go. Not that I mind that, I’ve wanted to leave for awhile, but the timing is–difficult. I would only be able to give one week’s notice. And 2 other people from the department just quit, so if I quit that will leave only two part timers. Pray for wisdom and courage! Thanks!

Congratulations on discerning a possible vocation to the priesthood! I remember when I decided to make my leap of faith into the seminary, I had the same concern that you are facing now. The best advice I can give to you is take a chance! As soon as you become “like a child”, and put your trust completely in God, you will be able to go on your retreat knowing that God will provide for you. I wish you the best of luck and the comfort that I hope you will recieve from going on this retreat. I will be sure to keep you in my prayers. God be with you!!

Sure will ! And, I just said a prayer to St. John Vianney for you.

Oh good one joey’s mom, and I will too!!
Don’t worry about the company you are leaving, they can always hire a temp to fill in. Then you will be helping someone to have a job that will need one to help them out for Thanksgiving and Christmas. (look at it that way) 🙂

Can I request prayers for my vocational discernment too?

Josh

You sure can, oh and by the way, there is a thread on the Spirituality forum just for prayer intentions. 👍 We will remember you in our prayers too.

Thanks everyone for your prayers! It went well. I’ll try to write more a little later.

I did give notice at work. I really wanted to leave soon anyway, this provided the opportunity! The Oct. 28 feast of Sts. Simon and Jude was, shall we say a hint of who to ask for prayer!
I was still nervous about it, but at the end of the day I found out that the manager was also leaving! It was easier to tell her then!

The retreat is this weekend at St. Joseph’s Seminary in the NY archdiocese. I can definately still use your prayers. At 47, I may be a little long in the tooth for the priesthood. But at Cana, they served the good wine later! And it took a miracle there too! Thanks.

The retreat was amazing! Actually the amazing started before the retreat. Nov. 4 was the feast of St. Charles Borromeo. I went to a noon mass before I left. They used the alternate readings for the feast day. All the readings and prayers sounded like they were for me! At one point, someone doing maintenance opened a front door as someone came in the back and a gust of wind blew through the church–a little reminder of the Holy Spirit’s presence, So I figured. St Charles would be a good patron for the retreat.

Now that the retreat is over I have a lot to think and pray about!

I once heard that a bishop asked a late vocation where Jesus was during the best years of his life, and the candidate responded: “Your excellency, THESE ARE the best years of my life!”
