We are referred to as the “Church of Rome”? Hmmm… That goes down about as well as “Papists” and “Romanists” and “Mackerel snappers”. And I’m not real sure what “remembering” means here. It seems kind of like when someone tells you that you are in their thoughts, rather than they will pray for you. Does “remembering” mean that they are engaging in intercessory prayer for the Catholic Church? If so, what is the prayer? I’m probably going to far here, especially on a thread that is so very positive. So I don’t mean to offend, its just that the wording struck me as odd when I really looked at it, and it just bothered me a little. No biggy. I know you didn’t write the “prayer” and hey, at least they thought about us and that’s a good thing.

Well, as I say, we don’t generally pray for specific things other than for God’s will to be done. In this context the word ‘remember’ is definitely intercession, as it was mentioned during the intercessory prayers. I know a worrying number of anti-Vatican 2 types who think the RCC has had several.Maybe they were praying for a Protestant Pope?
You think you’re joking, but put yourself in their shoes. They probably ARE praying that a pope will be elected that will “repent of the erroneous teaching and corruption with which catholicism has infected real christianity.” Of COURSE they think this way. If they thought differently, they’d be bad Calvinists, right?Maybe they were praying for a Protestant Pope?
Thanks. We do have specific intercessions so maybe that is why it threw me. We have specific prayers for the world, for the Pope, bishops and clergy, for the sick of our parish, for those who have recently died, and then a few more depending upon what may be happening at the parish level.
Yes, we do have those as you describe, but I am talking about improvised prayers, which are not traditionally a part of Anglican worship at services other than Matins and Evensong, and there even they play secondary importance to the Collects in the Prayer Book - for Queen, Royal . Family, Church, and People usually.
