So I’m almost at the end of my prayer/bible study journal. Usually I rewrite any of the most important lessons, but then I don’t know what to do with the rest of it. Is it wrong to recycle/throw away something with prayers, copies of scripture, and the use of God’s and Jesus’s name in it? It’s not a blessed item, just my personal journal, but am I still required to burn it?

Thanks!

Do you have the room to keep it? It may come in useful down the road as you get older.

I’ve grown up with the instruction to burn and bury the ashes of religious books that aren’t usable any further or to just bury them—especially if they have been blessed, even more so if they are sacramentals.

Non-blessed things like holy cards on the other hand, can just go into the normal trash.

Unsure whether this is “correct” or over the top “prudent”. 🙃

If it is not a blessed item, you can discard in the trash, shred or burn. My choice would be to burn, so no one else can read it, but also symbolic of your prayers rising, like incense.

I myself would keep it for further reference or because it might at some point be found by another and inspire them.
But if you don’t want to keep it, I agree with the idea of burning it and letting the prayers rise up to heaven.

I find my comments very useful when reading some years later. Also what hymns, scripture, prayers and what people had said have helped me understand and grow in faith. I have taken my journal to spiritual direction several times and read pieces and been able to grow in faith.

If you want to have some fun 5 years from now read your comments 🤣
