prayer qestion

Lately things havn’t been going well, my dad is getting sick more and more often and is having job problems, also Im going to try to transfer colleges because the one Im at has been the wrong choice.

anyways, I’ve been praying a lot for help, and I feel bad that I do because I almost feel selfish for always asking for help… when after all Jesus died for us to even have a chance to go to heaven… and here I am begging for my a relief from my problems.

should I feel bad? or stop asking for so much help?

No you shouldn’t feel guilty for relying on God to help you. He does NOT keep a scorecard, if he did I’d prolly be the league MVP, all the stuff He’s done for me.

I tell Him all the time I need His guidance and occassionly something extra. He understands all that, and knows what’s best for us.

I pray for a lot of people. Generally, I have a hard time praying for myself. But once in a while, I am selfish and say “Ok Lord. This one’s for me” And lo and behold, He listens. I have been blessed twice in recent memory! And I was always one who “wondered” if God was truly listening. He does. Trust me, He does.

It’s fine to pray for yourself and others, and in fact, you should do so always! Just remember prayer is a conversation with God – so try to listen to what He’s saying to you too.

I guess i feel like Im doing something wrong, Ive never had an encounter where God has personally talked to me or shown me the way… I keep praying and I have full faith but I just thought i was asking for too much help or something

the more you are attentive to any answers He may give you, the more answers you will hear. For those who keep God in their lives, He is in theirs. But there are two things to remember; 1. He will use any means to guide you including His answers so you have to be open in all ways to Him. 2. although you may not understand the reason for an answer that is not what you wanted, you can be sure the outcome would be less favorable if it was the way you asked it to be. God knows better than we could imagine, even when times seem hard, think of the even more negative possibilities.

God always answers prayers. Sometimes He says yes, sometimes He says no, and sometimes He says wait. God answers prayers in several ways. He uses direct communication to us, Scripture, and other people. A good way to pray is the following:

Adoration
Contrition
Thanksgiving
Supplication (asking, for ourselves and others)

ah, Linda, sometimes the old instructions are the best instructions.

when i introduce praying this way to my 8th/ 9th grade confirmation students, they think it sounds so… hard. so… involved (?)

i show them it’s really like this: (OP, you might try this too)

Adoration, Dear God, you are ALL GOOD and holy and all love! I love you!

Contrition I’m so sorry that I don’t love you enough. I disobeyed, especially …

Thanksgiving ** but I thank you that you always love me, even when i fail! I thank you for hearing me, especially these prayers… **

Supplication please help me to love you more, please help me … and please help my friend…and my mom… etc.

then i instruct, just sit quiet and let Jesus look at your beautiful face. ask Him that you might see His even-more beautiful face. just sit and look at Him, let Him look at you back.

OP, praying like this in front of the Blessed Sacrament makes this prayer even more special.
