In prayer before Crusafix I thank Jesus and ask him to thank his Father God for me too. Is this appropriate.

Sure, it is fine.

Why would you think it would not be appropriate to offer a prayer of thanksgiving before the Crucifix?

Well I am convert learng. If God and Jesus are “one” ?? Just did not to make mistake.
 
I know it seems like there are a lot of rules involved in being Catholic but it isn’t really so. Prayer is rarely ever a mistake and one really can’t get it wrong. Listening to little kids pray the Our Father can be an eye-opener. 😃 Try not to get hung up by “the rules”.

It is okay to pray to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit separately or together or 2 out of 3.

Since we are asked to offer everything to God through Christ… there’s nothing wrong with that… though Jesus did say: ‘you believe in God, believe also in Me,’ and ‘everything you ask Me I will do’ (John 14:1, 13).

As Catholic we direct our prayers to God, the Father or to God, the Son, or to God, the Holy Spirit–we can include Jesus in all formats since that is the relationship: everything through and in Jesus!

…when we appeal to the Saints we do not ask them to grant our request but to intercede for us; as we would ask anyone on earth to pray for us or a particular cause… everything in Jesus!
