Requesting prayers for my very troubled marriage. Husband of 8 years wants to divorce to “get on with life”. Not in love with me anymore and says that there are no sparks or any chance of falling in love again. Feels marriage was a mistake and cannot believe that God would want to keep people in unhappy marriages.

You have 5 girls or you daughter #5 in y’alls family?

You didn’t ask for any advice, so I’ll let it go at that. You are in my prayers here.

I hope you decide to hang around more on CAF. You’ll many nice folks here.

So sorry to hear about this difficult situation. I will pray for you.:gopray:

Some quotes I would like to share that may give comfort:

“Every evening I turn my worries over to God. He’s going to be up all night anyway.” ~ Mary C. Crowley (He who keeps you will neither slumber nor sleep"- Psalm121:4)

"Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones. And when you have finished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake. ~Victor Hugo

From scripture:

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
-1Peter5:7

“…Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” - Joshua 1:9

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverence.”- James 1:2-3

I am very sorry to hear about your troubles… I do hope GOD enlightens you and your husband and gets you through this… Since you didn’t really ask for any advice I will just offer my prayers to you and your family, especially your husband, may GOD help him reach an understanding of marriage and his relationship with you that he realizes the sparks are there he is just too blind to see them right now, may whatever he is feeling or going through eases and may your marriage work out well! GOD bless and hope things get better for you!

Heavenly Father, in Your mercy distribute grace in Daughter5’s and her husband’s heart, so that they might always know and be willing and able to do Your will with joy. Be merciful and hear Daughter5’s prayer. Mary, pray with us. Amen. :harp:

I am the fifth daughter in my family. Just trying to come up with a username that I would remember and told a little about me. Thanks for all the prayers. We could use all that we can get. I just hope that he realizes that our marriage is worth restoring and we can fall in love again for our sake and the sake of our son. Blessings to you all.

Several people on this thread have some wonderful things to say about Retrouvaille. This retreat has saved many marriages on the verge of divorce/separation. Another common recommendation is marriage counseling–if your hubby won’t go with you, you can still go alone.

Love is not about feeling good. Obviously, feelings of happiness are a perk of love, and probably necessary to get the relationship going, but those feelings fade in many marriages. Love in the context of marriage is a choice to be faithful and self-giving to a spouse. God designed marriage as a covenant between the couple and Himself. If your husband divorces you, and you are in a valid marriage, then the divorce is not only harmful to you as the wife, but it is incredibly offensive to God Himself. He is trying to break that which cannot be broken–a spiritual bond that is sealed for the rest of your lives between you, your husband, and God.

You mentioned that your husband is using God as an excuse for leaving you. Is he a Catholic? Are you? Has he given you any other excuse for wanting a divorce other than not having the feelings anymore? Is there another woman?

Please do what you can to get your husband to Retrouvaille or marriage counseling (or both!). I will be praying for you.

I will pray that whatever is meant to happen, happens. God is always at work, even through the things we cannot understand. Many blessings.

Thank you all for your prayers. In order to attend the Retrouvaille weekend, both members of the couple must be willing to go. This was not the case. We did attempt counseling - not a success. It may be a mid-life crisis, in which, from what I’ve read, he may come out of it…hoping too much damage is not done. All I can do right now is pray, love him, and support him as his wife. I hope and pray 2009 brings around some positive change. Please keep the prayers coming. May God bless you all. Happy New Years!

Praying for you. Be strong and keep your head up high.

If he’s not cheated on you than count your blessings. I’ve been cheated on and it’s the worst feeling, believe me. It’s best that you let him go than to have him cheat on you. If he decides to get back with you, it will be much easier to do.

God Bless you.
