I am a nurse in a Methodist Nursing Home. This morning during report my unit manager used the Lord’s name in vain. They were passing around a picture of santa’s elves in nothing but hats with hand covering their private parts. Then they put a santa right by the manger that had his belly showing and when you pressed his hand he burped and said other obnoxious things. I am finding it difficult to go into work tonight. So please say some prayers that our Christmas miracle will be some conversions.

Rebecca,

I am appalled. I can’t believe that they think this is o.k. If it were a private party it would still be inappropriate. I don’t understand what kind of world we’re living in that this kind of thing is acceptable. The fact that your coworkers did this makes me really wonder about them. I think it’s odd that they find humor in this behavior, but then to subject you and others who find it offensive to it! Imo, these people are sick and so are the people who made these items.

I’m praying for you, that you find yourself surrounded by better people in the future.

you do not have to take this stuff lying down. In the workplace you are legally protected against such blatantly offensive language and behavior, especially on the part of a superior. Make your complaint first verbally to the offender. If the offense is not removed, make your complaint in writing to the management. If it is still not resolved in a reasonable time (24 hours after receiving your written complaint), notify your management in writing that you are going to the EEOC, and to a lawyer to make a civil complaint. stick to your guns. this is harrassment and precisely the type of behavior the law is meant to confront. If you say nothing, you have tacitly approved the action.

Follow up on incident. Before I went into work last night I sat before Jesus in the Eucharist at our perpetual adoration chapel. I told Jesus and the locution I think I got was to let Jesus handle this and to just do the best I could do to be a good nurse. I told my nursing supervisor what happened. She asked me if I knew if my unit manager was a man of faith or what faith he was. I said no, and she stated that she thought he was Jewish. I know he is polish, but nothing else about his faith. He is divorced (so am I) and in his 50’s. I do know that I am supposed to be a witness for him. Oh, when I was leaving the chapel, I walked out with another woman and she turned to me and said “Did you hear thunder?” She said maybe she just thought she heard thunder, but she looked perplexed.

I am charge nurse, so this morning I gave a little lecture on immorality becoming acceptable. I gave the example of the case of the California Police Dept. Christmas party tapes that were shown on national tv. Naturally, everyone thought the public had no right to see them because they were private.

I was just going to let it end like this until I read your replies, and I will write the Director of Nursing about the occurance. Thank you for your responses and support.

Right on Rebecca! Fight the good fight! 👍

Btw, it matters not what religeon, if any, the unit manager is.

I’m glad you’re not just letting this go 🙂
