EWTN is holding this vigil beginning at 1:00 PM EST, and it looks like a very lengthly vigil. If you are not able to begin at this time, it will be available for us to participate all afternoon, according to our personal schedules.

Thank you Pope Francis and EWTN for hosting this prayerful and urgent vigil.

Thanks for that.
What was the icon that was reverenced at the beginning?

A beautiful vigil, and timely.
Hope it will remain available on EWTN for awhile.

Kinda wish the Rosary prayers were in Latin though 😉

Our Lady Health of Rome or Our Lady Protectress of Rome. She is the patroness of Rome.

Oral tradition says that it was painted by St. Luke. We know that it was found in the 13th century. It has been painted over, probably in the 4th century and again in the 13th.

Ordinarily, it is housed at St. Mary Major.

Our little neighborhood church (Church of Christ I think) is also holding a prayer vigil for peace 4-8 this evening. Looks like our pope may be on to something BIG!:gopray2:

We just got home from the Prayer Vigil. It was quite an experience. My husband remarked that Pope Francis is just like a parish priest, but with a very large parish! Since the Prayer Vigil was only announced last Sunday, there wasn’t time for people to get there from other countries. It appeared to be an almost completely Roman crowd, and the service was almost entirely in Italian with a little Latin. We don’t know our prayers in Italian so we had to say the Rosary in English. St. Peter’s Square was packed. As I sat there looking at the Blessed Sacrament outside on the altar, I thought that Pope Francis must want us to take Christ to the streets so now I have to think about how I am to do my part.

His last tweet was: Orate pro pace! (Pray for peace.)

Before that: *Orate, iuvenes dilecti, Dominum mecum pacem in terris *(Pray, dear children, (to) the Lord with me (for) peace on earth.) Spanish tweet was: *Queridos jóvenes, recen conmigo por la paz en el mundo *
