Prayers and advice for growing in faith

I feel that over the past year I have struggled to feel close to God. There are times when I feel really close and hear His voice, but then others when I almost feel nothing (even though I know He is with me).
I ask for your prayers to deepen my faith and closeness to God and also to ask for advice. How have you handled a similar situation?

O God, send forth Your Holy Spirit into my heart that
I may perceive; into my mind, that I may remember;
and into my soul, that I may meditate. Inspire me to speak
