Prayers for children

Are there any prayers that would be good and not too hard, to teach to young children? I am working with the Our Father and Hail Mary prayers with my daughters and they are doing great,but are there any prayers that are a bit shorter for little children? They see me pray and they want to pray and I certainly want to encourage it.
 
teach them in songs :). Almost every prayer has a tune (or 5) you can use, try youtube!

Mine like the guardian angel in particular, “God our Father We Love you” food blessing (she also sings the “Bless us O Lord and these Thy Gifts…” to a tune she made up.

My eldest is 3, the 20m old does her version of the sign of the cross, and she’s starting to try and sing them- the 3 year old was 2 1/2 before she would!

“Matthew Mark Luke and John, Bless this Bed that I lay on,” is always a good nighttime blessing…and who wrote the gospels!?! 🙂
 
And that is why I am not a teacher…that is an excellent idea!! I bet they wouldn’t struggle so much remembering the end of the Our Father and Hail Mary if I did that too!
 
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

We say the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, and Angel of God on a daily basis… and at night time we say the “Now I lay me down to sleep…” prayer.
 
One of my oldest, dearest friends told me, when my kids were grown and gone, that she learned the Memorare with her mom at a very young age and they said it together through the years until her mom passed away. I wish I had done that, so I hope you will give it a shot.

REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
 
Every night, we say the same prayer. My 3 year old has been able to recite this since she was barely 2, because we have been saying it every night since infancy. (It was recently modified to add ‘and baby’ because we’re expecting. ;)) It’s of course personalized for our family, but here it is:

*Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.
And if I live for other days,
I pray the Lord to guide my ways,
Amen.

God bless Mama, and Papa, and Amelia, and Baby, and Ophie and all of our fish. And Grandma and Grandpa Nelson, and Grandma and Grandpa Hawn, and all of our aunts and uncles and cousins; and all of our friends, and all who have hurt us, and every little boy, girl, and person in the whole world, Amen.*

Then we each take a moment to say our special prayers. It will be something like “Mama has special prayers for Amelia, that she sleep well and gets good rest.” My daughter’s prayers are usually “I thank you for my mama who loves me, and my papa, and my bed, and everything in my whole room, Amen”. Stuff like that. 🙂

Then we close out with the Lord’s Prayer.

We do this every night as a family when papa is home, and just me and the little one on all other nights when he is working. She does really, really well with it. 👍

We do the Now I lay me down to sleep too, I think we are on the right track!
 
Pray the rosary out loud around them, even if they don’t participate they will learn it as they hear it (and that includes the Our Father and the Hail Mary). I would often play it in the car while we were driving somewhere and it would calm my oldest down when she was a wee little one, and as they learned to talk they would pray along without my prompting it.
