Does anyone know of any prayers in a difficult marriage. Some may remember that I left my husband 2 years ago, and while the terrible swearing and screaming has stopped, and as far as I can tell he has ceased the relationship with the other woman, he still drinks and lies to me about almost anything/everything.
So for now, the kids and I still live separately from him.
The Holy Spirit has given me the courage to confront him gently but firmly about different lies, and that has actually been helpful. He admitted (though I knew it) that he no longer goes to Mass, and he abstained from the Eucharist last time the family was together, so that has to be a step in the right direction. Up to now he has insisted that he goes to Mass and he has received when we do go to Mass as a family, and that’s not good for his soul, either.
So…I need to be filled with courage as well as meekness in this marriage. Does anyone know of prayers that are that specific?
Thank you,

Welcome Back!!

The best prayer advice that was given to my husband and I by our priest (when we were separated) was to begin praying together. He suggested we pray Night Prayer from the Divine Office together each evening, we could do this over the phone when we were separated. This is a brief prayer, 15 minutes at most. It is formal so we did not have to improvise.

Praying the psalms in times of difficulty helps me.

My wife and I pray the Night Prayer from the Divine Office every evening as well. While we did not have a bad relationship other than the occasional squable, it has served to bring us closer together. We use the iBreviary phone app to pray. Great suggestion!

St. Monica is an awesome Saint to request intercession from! Her assistance has been beautiful in my own marriage and my family. She experienced so much sorrow on earth with her family - a heathen, very difficult husband and a horribly sinful son as well…and they both had amazing conversions! Her son even grew to be the very familiar St. Augustine! The following is a great prayer that I use, but there are others online if you Google her name:

Holy St. Monica, I know that your life on earth as wife, mother, kind grandmother and wise friend
to many women and men made you a saint when you stood before the Throne of God.

As I pray for your intercession, I pray for the courage to overcome fear and to find the Lord in the face of my friends, my neighbors, and especially in my own family members whom I remember in a special way today.

Saint Monica, help me when I grow discouraged in prayer. For you lived in the knowledge that, even in the darkest moments, Our Lord never leaves us. he knows our needs better than we do, and loves us more than we could ever imagine in this world.

May your example help me to bring my prayers to the Lord, ever confident of His tender love and concern… even as I pray for these special intentions today.

If you read about her life online, you will be amazed as I was. Our Blessed Mother is also an extremely powerful intercessor for all mothers here on earth. Just speak to her from your heart, and she will help! Peace to you always.

Our pastor said in that meeting that over his many years speaking with hundreds of couples, he was amazed how few of them prayed together just the two of them. Many prayed beyond grace over meals and/or family rosary with children, but, the act of the two of them alone praying was very uncomfortable.

St Monica is an amazing woman. The one big difference, she was in an arranged marriage. At that time and part of the world, she did not have the option to leave if things became dangerous.

There are different versions that you can find of the Mary, Undoer of Knots prayers and Novenas.

Here is one of the versions that I use. It can be prayed for any type of situation:

You can also pray for the help and intercession of St. Rita of Cascia. She was in a difficult marriage for many years. She is known as a “Saint of the Impossible.”

You can also find different Novena prayers to her. This website tells a little about her life, and also includes a prayer:

Also, here is some information on St. Charbel/Sharbel. I have also posted a link to Novena prayers for him, too.

He was a Lebanese Catholic Maronite Monk who lived a very holy life during the 19th Century:

Good point regarding St. Monica. She’s still an amazing intercessor no matter what the outcome may be that is part of God’s plan in a marriage. Between her intercession and that of our Blessed Mother, it seems like a win/win situation for all wives!
