How do Eastern Catholics view prayers for the deceased? How similar or different is it from the Latin tradition?

How do Orthodox view prayers for the deceased? How similar or different is it from the Eastern Catholic understanding?

Note: If you are Eastern Catholic, please identify which rite you belong to so I can understand the specific tradition you are referring to. If you are Orthodox, please specify which Orthodox tradition you are referring to.

Thanks!

The main theme of the Syro Malabar Catholic Office for the Dead is “Receive O Our Lord” or in Syriac “Qambel Maran”. We follow the ancient East Syriac tradition of the Office for the Dead. Many divine hymns are recited by the priests and the clergy during the funeral.

We have a special hymn for the funeral service of a priest, the song “Witawaangunnen” or “May I Bid Farewell” is sung. The songs portrays the priest saying good bye to his parish.

**The Syro Malankara Catholics have a similar hymn for the funeral of their priests. **
