Prayers in Latin

I’d like to know and say some prayers in Latin. I think that would keep me in touch with the rich history of the church.

I managed to get the Latin prayers for the Lord’s Prayer, The Hail Mary, The Glory Be and even the Apostles Creed …

Have you seen them?! I have no idea how to pronounce them! hahaha

I’ve searched but I can’t find sound files for these prayers?

Anybody know any good sites where I could dload sound bytes of the prayers in Latin?

Thanks for the link, it’s precisely what I’m looking for. … although I can’t seem to open the ‘audio’ from my office … I hope it’s just the security settings and not that the link’s dead.

I have found lots of resources for Latin Prayers on the web. I would not worry if you happen to find some from a SSPX site. While they are schismatic, the prayers are far older than the SSPX. I have found prayers on some of their sites I could not find elsewhere, such as the confiteor.

Here is one example of a collection put out by a SSPX organization. In no way to I condone their actions, but I also recognize that these prayers all came into existence long before they have. Some prayers found here, I have been unable to find any place else in Latin. English yes; Latin no.

I love Latin as it is so graceful in sound, imho.

One word of caution. When you see pronounciation guides telling you to pronounce an “e” like a long “a”, make sure you say it like the “e” in “let”.

Sound out Iesu (Jesu) Christu and Spiritu.

If you do it the americanized way you get:

Yayzoo Chwristoooo
If you do it in good, european sounding latin, you get:

Yezu Cdddristu (the ddd i put in to simulate rolling the r, which takes practice but sounds better).

There is a free downloadable eccliastical latin course online, but I don’t have the link atm and couldn’t find it. Maybe someone else will see it before I can get back on. IT teaches you the basics of Latin using church language.
