Prayers Please: Working 12 Hours in Retail on BLACK FRIDAY--HELP!

I have to work a 12 hour shift beginning 11:30 pm Thursday night and
ending 11:30 A.M. Friday morning. Overnight shift. It’s going to be brutal.
Please pray for me.
As a person, I am a nervous wreck and take lots of Klonopin for the anxiety and panic.
I now wish I hadn’t volunteered for this 12 hour overnight shift,
cuz I hear it is going to be a MADHOUSE, full of customers demanding individualized service while we sales people CANT GIVE IT TO THEM because we are stuck behind cash registers with lines a mile long, so (I’ve been told) the customers will frequently be yelling, screaming, complaining, demanding, raising hell, **and many of them trying to trick us that certain items have been marked down to MUCH LOWER than they actually have, which they think they can get away with because we will be so nuts trying to control the crowds that we won’t bother to check their claims.**Now, I am not only a very nervous person by nature and on meds for it, **but
I also have a very hot Scottish-Irish TEMPER, and if I am cussed-out by someone,
especially when exhausted and frantic, I am liable to tell them where to stick it, frankly.
So please pray for me that I *don’t *** do that, by God’s help and grace,
because that could cause me to lose my job. Please pray for me
and for all people who are working in retail on this "Black Friday."
I deliberately NEVER go shopping on Black Friday. I don’t know WHAT I was thinking when I signed up for this madhouse shift… God help me, literally!!!

Will do!! I was in Kentucky visiting my sister over Thanksgiving a couple of years back, and we made the decision to go to Meijer’s. OMG, I never saw it so busy, and it was in the middle of the afternoon! Know that my prayers go with you :hug3:

DEFINITELY I am praying for you, dear brother!!!!
You and I are both going to need it.
So are hundreds of thousands of OTHER retail workers.

No, Jared, I won’t be receiving Holiday Pay. I feel that I should, but no, cuz
I have only been with the company again since July (under six months).

Are you paid primarily by commission? I am,
so if you are, I pray you ring up at least $6000 in sales yourself.
I hope *** I *** ring up at least $6000 in sales, because once I go home Friday morning
at 11:30 (if I haven’t lost it long before then, please Lord don’t let that happen,Amen),
I don’t go back to work until Saturday.

Things went pretty well on Black Friday, not at all what I expected,
rather a pleasant 12 hour shift, actually. Hectic, but nice.
IT STARTED OUT A LIVING HELL, though. When we opened our doors at midnight,
hordes of wild people came roaring through the door, yelling and screaming and whooping and hollering like maniacs, literally like maniacs. I turned to my co-worker and said,
Oh No, if I have to deal with this for 12 hours, I will have a nervous breakdown…
but after about 10 or 15 minutes, everybody calmed down from their yelling and screaming and concentrated - madly - on grabbing up all the super-specials items.
Very few people were hostile with each other and only one, I think, with me.
We were blessed at my store.
I heard things got pretty violent at other stores across the country,
which is an obscene shame. It’s only a freaking SALE, after all.

I am so glad that things went well for you. I had Mass said especially for you that day. I am so thankful that God does hear and answer prayers and in such a wonderful and beautiful way.

My Friday went quite well. Several of my friends and family flew in from the United States becuase I could not get off from school and was pretty much exhuasted. One of the greatest blessings was that I was notified this week of my acceptance to study for another Master’s degree in Sacred Music [Sacred Composition]. I accepted on Friday. I am very excited.

So all in all, it sounds like everyon had a blessed Thanksgiving weekend.
